Gridlock 2.0 released for iOS6 compatibility

Today, one of the last tweaks I have been waiting to use on my iPhone 5, Gridlock 2.0, was released to add compatibility for iOS 6. This tweak is essential for any devoted themer. The tweak allows you to position your app/folder icons anywhere on your Springboard without the rest of the icons shifting around. This tweak works out great for themes with widgets or custom icon layouts.

Unfortunately, the developer @chpwn has implemented an upgrade fee for those who had already purchased the original Gridlock. For new users, the tweak will cost $4.99, for those who are …

Winterboard 0.9.3910 released to fix notification overlap UISound and Theme Optimization

Over the past few days, @saurik has released two updates to the popular iPhone theming application, Winterboard. Winterboard 0.9.3909 fixes an issue that I know many of our users were asking about which is notification overlap when using HTML lockscreens. Before this update, if you had a lockscreen which uses HTML, notifications would be hidden beneath the lockscreen preventing you from seeing them pop up when your phone is locked. This inclueds BiteSMS quick reply notifications. The 0.9.3909 update also fixes an issue with UISound themes to customize your devices sounds.

Today, Winterboard 0.9.3910 was released to address issues …

iOS 6.1.1 released for iPhone4S still contains Evasi0n exploit!

Today, Apple pushed out the iOS 6.1.1 update for the iPhone4S only. This update is supposed to fix issues with 3G for certain users. It has been confirmed that the Evasi0n untether exploit still exists in the 6.1.1 firmware for the 4S, but it is unclear whether the final release of 6.1.1 for other devices will be the same case.

PlanetBeing announced that a new version of Evasi0n will be released shortly that can detect 6.1.1 devices so that 4S users can update and jailbreak. Stay tuned to find out if the rest of the devices will be susceptible!…

Will Sunday be funday for the iOS 6.1 jailbreak?

This Sunday, is the highly anticipated Super Bowl between the 49ers and Ravens, but for those of you iOS device users, you might be happy to hear that the release of the jailbreak for iOS 6.1, the new iOS firmware released earlier today, may also be released on Sunday as well. In the past, the jailbreak developers have had a tradition of releasing jailbreaks on Sunday and it appears as though the new jailbreak may follow the same day of release. In a recent tweet, MuscleNerd asks what people have planned for Sunday with a mention of the evad3rs dev

Olympic 2012 Medal for Notification Center – Keep up to date with Olympic results

We already told you about the free Live Stream of the 2012 Olympics on iOS devices, but now there is an even easier way to follow your country's 2012 Olympic standings! Olympic 2012 Medal for Notification Center is a new tweak in the Cydia store that will allow you to track the medal progress of your country directly from your Notification Center. Unfortunately, this tweak will set you back $2.00, which we think is a little steep for a tweak that will only be useful for a few weeks, but if you are a die-hard Olympic follower and you're …

We mentioned earlier that WWDC 2012 is all but hours away. News is coming left right and center about what could and 'will' be released at Apple's big event, more on that later. Current news at the moment is that banners have been spotted going up at the venue in San Francisco announcing iOS 6.  It's being labeled as "the world's most advanced mobile operating system" and comes along with a new fingerprint-styled icon.

Take a look at the images snapped by viewers below:

So what do you think? Looking forward to WWDC 2012, iOS 6 and all the other …

A late model iPad2 Wi-Fi (iPad2,4) has been the only A5 device that was not yet supported by the recent untethered jailbreak exploit, Rocky Racooon. Early this morning, the Chronic-Dev Team released updates to Absinthe and Rocky Racoon so that iPad2,4 users can now finally join the jailbreak crowd. All 5.1.1 jailbreakers will notice an update to Rocky Racoon in Cydia, you can freely update but do not uninstall Rocky Racoon as it is necessary for the jailbreak.

Absinthe 2.0.1 released to fix minor bugs

Hot on the heels of the Absinthe 2.0 release earlier today, the Chronic Dev Team has already rolled out 2.0.1 to address some minor bugs from the initial release. There isn't much information regarding this release other than the fact that it is to fix bugs, but if you've already successfully jailbroken using 2.0 you can go ahead and leave it. For those who have yet to jailbreak, we always advise to use the latest version of the jailbreak tools so you can download the new release below.

Yesterday in our post on how to downgrade iPhone4S and the iPad2/3, we mentioned that the iPhone-Dev Team had left out compatibility for the 9A406 revision of the 5.0.1 firmware for the iPhone4S. Today they have released Redsn0w 0.9.11b2 which adds support for this firmware. The tutorial is exactly the same only it doesn't matter which version of the 5.0.1 firmware you use(as long as you have an SHSH saved for it).

Status update on the iOS 5.1 jailbreak

There have been a lot of questions from viewers since our recent post about the upcoming iOS 5 jailbreak so we thought it would be useful to help clear the air with some more info released today from pod2g.

The good news is that they have managed to bypass the ASLR (Address Space layout randomization) already. The complicated security measure could’ve taken much longer. The bad news is that a public jailbreak still seems to be a ways out…

New beta Cydia package Curiosa provides background updates and notifications for Cydia

Infamous jailbreak developer, Ryan Petrich, has released a beta version of a new package that he has developed which will display notifications for Cydia packages that you have installed which have been updated or based on the keywords you define. Typically, you will receive an update badge for Cydia when there is an update available, but with this app, you will actually get a notification when one of your Cydia packages gets updated.

You can change the setting for how often you would like Curiosa to check for updates. The shortest time interval being "hourly" and the longest being …
