Redsn0w 0.9.11b2 released to add support for iPhone4S 9A406 5.0.1 firmware

redsn0w1

Yesterday in our post on how to downgrade iPhone4S and the iPad2/3, we mentioned that the iPhone-Dev Team had left out compatibility for the 9A406 revision of the 5.0.1 firmware for the iPhone4S. Today they have released Redsn0w 0.9.11b2 which adds support for this firmware. The tutorial is exactly the same only it doesn’t matter which version of the 5.0.1 firmware you use(as long as you have an SHSH saved for it).

I’ll answer the questions that I get a lot from people that ask me to jailbreak their device, are planning on jailbreaking or have already done so. If you have any questions that you think I should add, please send me an email at (covxx@iphoneblogr.com). I’ll also cover some tweaks/apps that I think you should install first.

1. What dose jailbreaking do?

Jailbreaking in the simplest way lets you install things that you normally can’t. For …

Status update on the iOS 5.1 jailbreak

cydia

There have been a lot of questions from viewers since our recent post about the upcoming iOS 5 jailbreak so we thought it would be useful to help clear the air with some more info released today from pod2g.

The good news is that they have managed to bypass the ASLR (Address Space layout randomization) already. The complicated security measure could’ve taken much longer. The bad news is that a public jailbreak still seems to be a ways out…

“ETA for 5.1 JB : no clue! We’re going to set pieces of the puzzle together this week. We could have …

New beta Cydia package Curiosa provides background updates and notifications for Cydia

curiosathumb

Infamous jailbreak developer, Ryan Petrich, has released a beta version of a new package that he has developed which will display notifications for Cydia packages that you have installed which have been updated or based on the keywords you define. Typically, you will receive an update badge for Cydia when there is an update available, but with this app, you will actually get a notification when one of your Cydia packages gets updated.

You can change the setting for how often you would like Curiosa to check for updates. The shortest time interval being “hourly” and the longest being …

iOS 5.1 released for iPad iPhone and iPod Touch (Jailbreakers should not update)

ios51

Following Apple’s iPad event this afternoon, they have released iOS 5.1, the newest iOS firmware for most of the newer iDevices. The new update doesn’t really bring much in the way of new features, however Japanese 4S users will be happy to learn that Siri now supports their language. 5.1 is also the update which is said to finally fix the iPhone4S battery drain issues for good. The iPad received some new updates as well, including a redesigned camera app and optimized sound for video and audio playback.

For AT&T iPhone 4S users, you will notice after updating that …

Apple releases iOS 5.1 beta 3 final release coming soon

5.1

Apple made one more step towards the final and public release of iOS 5.1 by releasing beta 3 today. The new beta release comes almost exactly a month after the release of 5.1 beta 2. Jailbreakers who haven’t already updated to 5.0.1 should do so ASAP and save their SHSH since 5.1 will likely close the untethered jailbreak exploit.

This appears to be a very minor update with a few small bug fixes. Also, the update seems to only be available OTA.

Pod2g Releases New Untethered iOS 5.0.1 Jailbreak Demo Video – Almost Ready For Prime Time

pod2g

With the release of iOS 5 over two months ago, with no untethered jailbreak being released as of yet, it is clear that Apple has done well with their security this time around.

Members from within the community are working hard to combat this. We posted earlier with a teaser video from Pod2G showing an untethered jailbreak he was working on, today we have another one to show.

From pod2g’s blog post:

“Here is a new video demo of the current status of the iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak running on an iPhone 4. This is meant to reassure people that …

Ultrasn0w 1.2.5 for iOS 5.0.1 compatibility available now

unlock

The other day, we reported that MuscleNerd had announced a new version of Ultrasn0w 1.2.5 which would fix compatibility issues with iOS 5.0.1. Yesterday, we told you that the iPhone-Dev team repo had gone down which is why this new version of Ultrasn0w 1.2.5 was not released on Monday as planned. Today, it seems that the infrastructure update has been completed and now Ultrasn0w 1.2.5 is available in Cydia. Once again, I must stress that this new version of Ultrasn0w DOES NOT add any new baseband compatibility. It only adds 5.0.1 support for basebands which are already unlockable:

iPhone 4S Untethered Jailbreak Status Update

4s

Those keeping up with pod2g’s iOS blog may have noticed a new post this morning updating us on the status of the iPhone 4S untethered jailbreak. According to his latest post, he has been making some great progress and is very close but he is having an issue with the processor cache. No update on whether or not he has succeeded with the iPad2 or not. He says he will post more information tomorrow.

Hello.

Here are the news of the 4S week-end.

The untether fails right now because I’m having processor cache issues.

I’m close, but I can’t …

Ultrasn0w 1.2.5 adding 5.0.1 unlock support to be released later today

ultrasn0w

Just a bit ago, @MuscleNerd announced the released of Redsn0w 0.9.9b9 which adds 5.0.1 native compatibility as well as a bunch of new features. One footnote you may have missed is that later today(Monday) Ultrasn0w 1.2.5 will be released to add support for iOS 5.0.1. Until now you have had to use the Ultrasn0w 5.0.1 fix in order to unlock on that firmware, with this update of Ultrasn0w you will no longer need to do that.

To be clear, this does NOT add support for any new basebands, only compatibility with the 5.0.1 firmware for basebands which have already …

TinyCFW Alpha Released Build a Custom CFW for iPhone4 and iPad2 Downgrade iPad2 to 4.3.3 with SHSH

TinyCFW

*UPDATE* Windows users, if you are having issues check out our TinyCFW fix.

Today, @notcom the creator of the popular iOS SHSH saving tool, TinyUmbrella has released a new application called TinyCFW. This tool is something that he coded for his friend for restoring 4.3.3 on his iPad2. Right now if you try to do this with the tools available you would get stuck in a 1015 loop because iTunes would cause a baseband panic when it tried downgrading your baseband. The nice thing about this tool is that it will allow users to Downgrade
