How to jailbreak iOS6 beta 2 with Redsn0w 0.9.13dev2

jailbroken

Today, Apple released iOS6 beta 2 to developers. For those developers who wish to update their 3rd party apps and tweaks to be compatible with iOS6 once it is released publicly, this tutorial will walk you through jailbreaking iOS6 beta 2 with Redsn0w. Since Redsn0w has not yet been updated to support the new beta release, you will need to use Redsn0w 0.9.13dev2 which was released to perform a tethered jailbreak on beta 1 of iOS6. You will also need an iOS6 beta 1 firmware file since Redsn0w does not recognize the beta 2 firmware yet.

It should also be …

Jailbreak iOS 6 Beta with Redsn0w (Video Tutorial)

ios61

The other day we mentioned that a new release from the iPhone-Dev Team, Redsn0w 0.9.13dev1 can perform a tethered jailbreak of iOS 6 beta firmware on A4 and lower devices. This jailbreak uses the limera1n bootrom exploit which is why it won't work on A5(X) devices. This jailbreak also does not install Cydia. All package installation and transferring must be done via SSH or afc2. This is a video tutorial on how to jailbreak iOS 6 beta on an iPhone 3Gs/4 or iPod Touch 4.

5.1 Untethered Jailbreak still weeks away according to pod2g

51

Soon after the release of 5.1, various jailbreak developers started posting images of their A5 and A5X devices jailbroken running 5.1. Of course, this doesn't mean much for end-users since the code they use cannot be distributed nor would end-users know where to begin to use it. Since those first few days after it's release, we haven't heard much in the way of news surrounding the upcoming jailbreak.

Today, @pod2g has released some new info suggesting that we are still weeks away from a public jailbreak. Apparently, the Chronic Dev-Team has bits and pieces of a userland jailbreak, however, …

Redsn0w 0.9.10b6 iOS 5.1 jailbreak for all non-A5 devices (Tethered)

redsn0w

As you know, any iDevice prior to the iPad2/iPhone4S is susceptible to the limera1n bootrom exploit. Because of this, no matter what new firmware Apple releases, these devices will ALWAYS have a tethered jailbreak available. Today @musclenerd has released Redsn0w 0.9.10b6 to perform a tethered jailbreak on these devices.

Simply download redsn0w, run the jailbreak section as you normally would and then after the jailbreak process has completed you can re-open redsn0w and go into "extras" and select "just boot" in order to boot your tethered device. Remember that this does not apply to the iPad2 and iPhone4S. If you …

Redsn0w 0.9.9b9d Tutorial Jailbreak 5.0.1 native support (no IPSW needed)

redsn0w

Now that Redsn0w 0.9.9b9d has been released, there is no longer a need for a 5.0 IPSW in order to jailbreak or tethered boot your device. This is great news for those who carry the files around with them in case they need to reboot tethered away from home. Now all you need is Redsn0w and an internet connection, no need for the bulky IPSW file! Redsn0w 0.9.9b9 also adds a bunch of other features but we will stick to jailbreaking for this tutorial.

Ac1dSn0w is out now – how to jailbreak with AcidSn0w Beta 1

pwndev

A few days ago we told you about a new jailbreak tool coming to the scene called Ac1dSn0w by the Pwn Dev Team. Today Beta 1 of their new software has been released and is available for OSX. Unfortunately this first beta version does not include the remote jailbreaking feature or custom firmware creation we originally reported.

Just to be clear this is NOT an untethered jailbreak and does not support iPhone4S or iPad2(since it uses the same limera1n exploit as all the other current jailbreaks). This first release has very limited compatibility and does not add anything new so …

Ac1dSn0w a new jailbreak tool to be released this Sunday

ac1dsn0w

Ac1dSn0w is out now!

A new jailbreak tool is about to break onto the jailbreak scene this Thanksgiving weekend. The tool is known as Ac1dSn0w. First of all, let me explain that the initial release of this tool will NOT be adding anything new. It will only support a tethered 5.0/5.0.1 jailbreak and it won't work on A5 devices(just like redsn0w/sn0wbreeze). However, Ac1dSn0w promises to incorporate custom IPSW building as well as jailbreaking just like the latest Mac releases of Redsn0w.

The other feature we are looking forward to is the "remote jailbreak" feature that they are working on …

Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 Tethered with Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 (Tutorial)

redsn0w

For those who updated to iOS 5.0.1 or are planning on it, as you know from our 5.0.1 update post, you have lost your chance for an untethered jailbreak. However, you can still do a tethered jailbreak on 5.0.1 since all A4 and earlier devices are permanently jailbroken tethered. Redsn0w has not yet been updated to support 5.0.1 so you will have to use the 5.0 version to jailbreak and boot tethered.

Jailbreak and Update to iOS 5.0.1 with Sn0wbreeze 2.8b11

sn0wbreeze

*UNLOCKERS* Please note that ultrasn0w is not yet compatible with 5.0.1, however there is now a fix. After following this tutorial to update to 5.0.1 make sure you follow our ultrasn0w on 5.0.1 fix.

Today, iOS 5.0.1 was released which addressed battery drain issues with a few other changes as well. For those who are waiting for an untethered jailbreak, you should not update to iOS 5.0.1 because pod2g's upcoming untethered iOS5 jailbreak will require an exploit that was patched in today's 5.0.1 release. If you don't care about being tethered and want to update to 5.0.1 …

Sn0wbreeze 2.8b9 and Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 released to add iOS beta 5.0.1 support

ios5

For developers who have updated to the iOS 5.0.1 firmware that was released yesterday and would like to jailbreak, MuscleNerd and the iPhone-Dev team have released Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 and ih8sn0w has released Sn0wbreeze 2.8b9 to add support for the new beta firmware.

Redsn0w users, the new update does natively detect the new 5.0.1 firmware but because the firmware is not yet public, you will have to specify the firmware the first time you run it, but from there Redsn0w will cache the necessary files and you shouldn't have to specify the firmware again.

For those who want to update to …

Working iBooks fix for jailbroken iOS5 with icon fix

ibooks

*UPDATE* Users on iOS 5.0.1 there is a much simpler fix now in Cydia check out our iBooksFix2 post.

Yesterday we posted a video from ih8sn0w demoing a working version of iBooks running on iOS5. Unfortunately he stated that he would not be releasing the fix because it was "unstable." However, today a method has surfaced for enabling iBooks on a jailbroken iOS5 device via SSH. I am not sure if this is the same method that ih8sn0w was using in his video, but it does work.

Step 1. If you have iBooks installed already, remove …

ih8sn0w teases iBooks on Jailbroken iOS5 (Video)

ibooks

*Update* Now there is a working iOS5 iBooks fix via SSH/iFile

One of the downfalls of the current iOS5 tethered jailbreak is that iBooks does not work once jailbroken. @ih8sn0w the creator of sn0wbreeze has teased a YouTube video(see below) of iBooks running a jailbroken iOS5 device.

According to ih8sn0w, the issue is because of how redsn0w and sn0wbreeze performed sandbox patches in the kernel. Sandbox is a security measure that is used to ensure applications such as Safari don't have access to personal information or system files.

Unfortunately, he goes on to say that he will not be …

Turn your Tethered iOS5 Jailbreak into a Semi-Tethered iOS5 jailbreak with SemiTether (Tutorial)

tether

It's no secret, one of the most inconvenient things about a tethered jailbreak is that you are prone to having a useless device when you are away from your computer. Whether you lose power, the phone spontaneously reboots or you accidentally install a Cydia package that requires reboot without knowing, the risk of getting stuck in a boot loop when you're away from your computer is enough to prevent many people from jailbreaking on iOS5.

Luckily there is a band-aid fix for this problem. It is a new Cydia package called SemiTether which will allow you to reboot your device …
