Free iPhone tethering without jailbreak via FlashArmyKnife

fak

Since acquiring my iPhone5, one of the things I have missed more than anything is being able to tether my cellular connection with other devices for free. With no jailbreak, my only option for tethering is to pay Verizon another $30/month for data that I am already paying for. Lucky for me, a new app has just made it's way through Apple's iTunes approval process.

This new app, FlashArmyKinfe, contains a hidden tethering function that allows you to tether your cell connection to any other ad-hoc capable device for free(aside from the app cost of course). The application does …

Google Maps for iOS6 now available in iTunes store

googlemaps

It seems as though ever since Apple ditched Google Maps for their own version of GPS mapping, rumors have been flying about Google releasing a standalone app in the iTunes App Store. I had been using iOS 5.1.1 up until recently, when I swapped my 4S for an iPhone 5 so I hadn't yet experienced Apple maps(sans some experimentation in the early beta versions). I have to say that I haven't really experienced any major issues with Apple maps in the few days I have been using it, however there have been loads of people loathing over the application on …

IntelliID Upcoming CallerID Cydia Package Fetches Callers Names from Database

intellii

Intelliborn, the popular jailbreak developer company who has brought us such Cydia apps as MyWi, My3G and Elert among many others has been developing a great new application that is set to hit the Cydia store right around the release of iOS5. IntelliID is a CallerID application that will fetch a caller's name immediately upon them calling. The application will pull names both for landlines and mobile phones. Never again will you have to wonder who is calling you from that unknown number.

IntelliID pulls names from a US/Canada calling database. Because of this it seems as though it will …

VLC Player Application finally pulled from the iTunes App Store

vlc-app-icon-ios

The ever popular VLC Player application from the iTunes App Store, which allows users to playback video that is not natively supported by the iPhone, has finally been pulled from the iTunes App Store. Apple had received a formal letter from the developers of VLC(the computer version) about copyright infringements.

The infringement is actually more of just a snag in the way that iTunes operates. iTunes does not allow the installation of an application(free or paid) by a user on more than 5 devices. This goes against the original GNU license VLC's code is based on. According to the developers …

App Review: Garmin StreetPilot GPS [App Store]

GarminStreetPiloticon

Rating:

Although technically one of the first GPS manufacturers to market a mapping app for portables with its Garmin Mobile 10 software for PDAs and Palm, Garmin has been notably absent from the smartphone navigation app marketplace as of late (discounting the aging and ridiculously overpriced Garmin Mobile for Blackberry). Today, Garmin jumps back into the fray, challenging apps from TomTom, Magellan, and Navigon with not one, but four of its own GPS-centric apps, including the new StreetPilot navigation app for iPhone and three new GPS apps for Android devices.

The StreetPilot name hearkens back to the original Garmin StreetPilot …

Jay Freeman (Saurik) Announces Cydia App Store for Mac OS

When it comes to jailbreaking, there's probably no name as familiar to the development community than that of Jay "saurik" Freeman. Jay is the brain behind the Cydia App Store, and this morning he gave the attendees of 360|MacDev an overview of his upcoming jailbreak store for Mac OS X, cycript, and Cydia Substrate.

Currently, Cydia Installer has been used by about 10% of all iPhone users, or about 10 million devices. There are well over 30,000 packages available for iOS, and a lot of open source material can be downloaded from Cydia. He refers to Cydia as a …

App Review: ListLauncher [Cydia Store] – Launch Apps from Spotlight

listlauncher

Rating:

ListLauncher makes it possible to add a list of your apps to the Spotlight screen. The tweak is available for the iPhone and iPod touch devices. ListLauncher is developed by the famous iPhone developer and hacker chpwn. The tweak makes it much easier to find an app by name and not by icon.

It is not an alternative to Spotlight as they both work together but with the power of Spotlight things become much more easier for you.

ListLauncher is available in the Cydia Store for download at $0.99. The tweak is good specially for those who have lots …

iSHSHit allows you to backup device firmware SHSH blobs from Apple directly on your device for later use for downgrading. It automatically uses the Cydia On File service in the background, so it's a great way to ensure that your SHSH is stored by Cydia. iSHSHit can also e-mail your SHSH blobs to you for an additional backup of your blobs.

Step 1: Download iSHSHit from Cydia, it is available on the BigBoss repo so you do not need to add any sources.

Step 2: After installing iSHSHit close Cydia and you will see the app on your …

Skyfire application temporarily “sold out”

Earlier this evening, we announced that the new application, Skyfire, which has been going through the application approval process for the past 2 months, was released today. Skyfire is a browser replacement that allows playback of Flash videos on your iDevices using HTML5 transcoding. The developers knew that this was going to be a successful application since up until now there is only one alternative to run Flash(Frash) and it is compatible with hardly any flash files making Skyfire the only viable option to watch Flash videos on your device.

Apparently they did not plan well enough. Within 5 hours …
