Tutorial – How to jailbreak iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch on iOS 9.3.3 using Pangu

After a long 10-month wait, the PanGu team has recently released a jailbreak for iOS 9.3.3. Unfortunately this latest jailbreak tool is only working on 64-bit devices. The other drawback of this latest tool is that it is, what is being called, a "semi-untethered jailbreak." Those of you who have been in the jailbreaking scene in the past may remember the semi-tethered jailbreaks of yesteryear which required you to connect your device to a computer(tether) in order to reboot the device. If the device rebooted when you weren't near a computer, the device became completely unusable. This "semi-untethered" jailbreak is …

A5 Untethered iPhone4S and iPad2 jailbreak makes it’s way out of the sandbox with Saurik’s help

Today, @planetbeing made his first Twitter post in nearly a year and a half. We were beginning to worry about the guy! The "dream team" has made more progress on the A5 jailbreak by getting out of the "sandbox." For those who don't know, the sandbox is a security mechanism that is used to separate running programs. Each sandboxed app only has limited permissions to specific files and directories in the filesystem. Typically they have "read-only" access to the application bundle and "read-write" access to the documents folder. All of the apps you download from the iTunes appstore are …

How To Fix “The iPhone “iPhone” could not be restored. An internal error occurred” [iOS 5 Update Problems]

iOS 5 has just been released earlier today, with some great new features included in the new firmware, millions of iPhone users are trying to update their device. This is causing huge amounts of error for people.

Many users are experiencing an "internal error" or a 3002 or 3200 error. This is due to the high volumes of users currently trying to update.

We posted a tutorial earlier with other possible solutions, if you haven't done so, please look here. If you can tried this and you're restore still isn't working, please wait, hopefully the hype and rush of …

JailbreakMe.com has been purchased by Saurik and is once again home to Comex jailbreak

A few days ago we announced that the owner of JailbreakMe.com had gone rogue and replaced Comex' JailbreakMe exploit with a tribute to Steve Jobs. At that time, they had purchased the domain Jailbreaks.me which was to take the place of JailbreakMe.com. However, MuscleNerd has now announced that Saurik was able to purchase the domain from the original owner and the popular jailbreaking site has been restored permanently to it's original JailbreakMe.com home.

Did you miss MyGreatFest aka JailbreakCon – Watch Online

A few days ago, MyGreatFest, now known as JailbreakCon, the world's first jailbreak convention was held in London. In case you missed it and you were interested in seeing it in it's entirety, a few attendees did a LiveStream that is now available to watch online. There are some great keynote speeches that will tell you all about how jailbreaking got started, where it is now, where it is going and how the devs got into it.

The whole thing is ended with an extensive Q&A session with Jay "saurik" Freeman who answers tons of questions about Cydia, jailbreaking and …

MyGreatFest – The World’s First Jailbreak Convention Starts Tomorrow (Live Coverage)

The long anticipated convention, MyGreatFest, which will be the world's first jailbreaking convention is set to begin at 9am tomorrow morning. Don't ask me why it's called "MyGreatFest," I'm still trying to figure that out myself 😛 Regardless, this event is scheduled to have some high-profile names in the jailbreaking scene. Jay Freeman aka @saurik is scheduled to give a keynote and a QA session as well as Chronic-Dev team members @p0sixninja and @iOPK.

The event is scheduled to take place in an old brewery in London so unfortunately those of us living outside of that …

Cydia 1.1.2 Released No Major Additions (UPDATE: Not an official release)

Update: Saurik has commented on other blogs regarding 1.1.2 and has advised to stay away from the "purposely unreleased" update of Cydia 1.1.2. It has not been thoroughly tested and he advised that jailbreakers should stay away from it.

This /purposely-unreleased/ version of Cydia has only one major change in it (and four tiny things, only one of which is user-visible: the keyboard thing under Search): a modification to “stashing” (the step where your filesystem is rearranged during the initial jailbreak process) made for comex, who recently has been talking about his new platform for handling these things.

This change …

Error 3194 When Restoring 4.3.3 Fix

Reports from users have begun to come in that in some cases they are getting error 3194 when trying to restore factory 4.3.3 firmware file or custom 4.3.3 firmware files created with Sn0wbreeze 2.7 or Pwnage Tool 4.3.3. Apparently this is an issue with certain 4.3.3 SHSH requests from @saurik's server. @ih8sn0w has released a simple fix below:

Step 1: Download and the latest version of TinyUmbrella from http://thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.com

Step 2: Click on the "Advanced" tab and uncheck the option "Set Hosts to Cydia on Exit"

Step 3: Reboot your computer and try …

Why should you jailbreak your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch

There is a lot of confusion and misinformation surrounding the world of iDevice jailbreaking and it can be quite overwhelming for iDevice users who are considering jailbreaking. Firstly, it is thought by many that jailbreaking is illegal. This is simply not the case. Not too long ago the DMCA ruled that jailbreaking your device is 100% legal as well as unlocking the carrier lock to use your device on an unofficial carrier. The actual act of jailbreaking is simply gaining root access to the device to allow it to run unsigned code.

Jailbreaking opens many doors for iDevice users allowing …

Apple blocks Amazon to prevent Sauriks SHSH servers from accessing gs.apple.com

*UPDATE* @saurik has posted an update to his Twitter account that the SHSH saving issue was actually a coding SNAFU and not Apple blocking access to his servers.

Apple continues to crack down hard on the jailbreaking community. Today @chpwn has informed us that Apple has blocked access to all of Amazon's servers. @saurik has Cydia access the Apple servers to save our SHSH keys. Because his servers are now blocked we cannot save our SHSH keys automatically through Cydia. This can easily be remedied by using TinyUmbrella to save your SHSH files locally and presumably Saurik …

Cydia 1.1.1 available now faster more stable resume capabilities and improved search algorithm

Cydia 1.1 has just been released by saurik and is now available in Cydia. This version is nearly a complete rewrite from 1.0 and includes new features, bug fixes, and performance improvements. According to saurik, Cydia 1.1 is faster, slimmer, and more stable; including an improved search algorithm and "resume where you left off"

Cydia 1.1 also removes some of the older default packages. However, Saurik notes this is normal because repositories are managed differently, and will not be deleted.

Work on Cydia 1.1 has been ongoing on for some time now. Recently, Saurik posted a detailed comment on the

Cydia 1.1 Coming Soon – Improved Theme Center

With the recent announcement of ThemeIT, an alternative to the Cydia store which focuses solely on winterboard themes, Saurik has decided to revamp the Theme Center of Cydia in order to remain the #1 solution for all 3rd party applications, themes and hacks.

As I am not in charge of updating this area of Cydia (MacCiti/ModMyi are), users can actually expect to see new content on a biweekly (every two weeks, not twice a week) schedule. ;P

Right now, you will find a selection of themes from the top selling vendors in Cydia, as well as themes selected by the …

Why is Cydia called Cydia?

Cydia is a household name amongst the jailbreak community, but what does the word really mean? and why was it called that? Those of you who have jailbroken iOS devices are very likely to have used Cydia. The credit for this store which brings extra unrestricted functionality to our iOS devices goes to Jay “saurik” Freeman, who happens to be the brains behind this concept.

Cydia is used by millions of iPhone users and may be a very well known application, but not many people know what it means. Cydia is interestingly enough, named after a moth of all things! …
