Untethered jailbreak running on The New iPad
Some more progress in the upcoming 5.1 untethered jailbreak has been made today. @pod2g has successfully jailbroken the iPad3(The New iPad). This is great news for owners of the new iPad that were concerned about being able to jailbreak in the near future. This is also good news for iPad2 and iPhone4S users since the jailbreak is sure to work on those devices as well(even though pod2g has personally only jailbroken the iPhone4 and iPad3 so far). The only device he is not sure that it will work on is the new Apple TV. He also provided a video …
pod2g discovered 2 “big” 5.1 vulnerabilities over the weekend
Just a few minutes ago, @pod2g announced on Twitter that he has had a very productive weekend. According to the tweet, he managed to discover 2 “big” vulnerabilities in iOS 5.1. One of them is kernel-land and the other is root-land. This is great news for those eagerly awaiting the 5.1 untethered jailbreak and A5+ device owners who are on 5.1 and waiting for any sort of jailbreak.
Last week, pod2g added a poll on his blog asking the jailbreak community to weigh in on whether he should release the jailbreak as soon as it’s ready or if he …
Status update on the iOS 5.1 jailbreak
There have been a lot of questions from viewers since our recent post about the upcoming iOS 5 jailbreak so we thought it would be useful to help clear the air with some more info released today from pod2g.
The good news is that they have managed to bypass the ASLR (Address Space layout randomization) already. The complicated security measure could’ve taken much longer. The bad news is that a public jailbreak still seems to be a ways out…
“ETA for 5.1 JB : no clue! We’re going to set pieces of the puzzle together this week. We could have …
pod2g now has all 5.1 exploits and is working on bypassing ASLR
It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about the 5.1 jailbreak that many iDevice users are waiting for. The last time we updated the status of the jailbreak, @pod2g said that he and the Chronic-Dev team were working hard on the jailbreak but they didn’t have all the exploits needed in order to release a jailbreak. He also stated that even with all the exploits needed, they were still “weeks away” from being able to release anything.
pod2g released another update today that he now has all the exploits needed for the jailbreak. He is now working on …
5.1 Untethered Jailbreak still weeks away according to pod2g
Soon after the release of 5.1, various jailbreak developers started posting images of their A5 and A5X devices jailbroken running 5.1. Of course, this doesn’t mean much for end-users since the code they use cannot be distributed nor would end-users know where to begin to use it. Since those first few days after it’s release, we haven’t heard much in the way of news surrounding the upcoming jailbreak.
Today, @pod2g has released some new info suggesting that we are still weeks away from a public jailbreak. Apparently, the Chronic Dev-Team has bits and pieces of a userland jailbreak, however, …
iOS 5.1 Jailbreak on the horizon?
Well, there has been a lot of questioning whether there will be an iOS 5.1 release anytime soon. The jailbreak community is becoming more anxious as each new firmware is released. Although there isn’t any major upgrade in iOS 5.1 that the user could take advantage of, It would be nice to know that we have the newest firmware for all of our iDevices.
As everyone knows there is a tethered jailbreak available for all non-A5 Devices. The latest news in the jailbreak community is from i0n1c (Stefan Esser). He has recently revealed to the iPhone Dev Team member, pod2g, …
A5 Untethered iPhone4S and iPad2 jailbreak makes it’s way out of the sandbox with Saurik’s help
Today, @planetbeing made his first Twitter post in nearly a year and a half. We were beginning to worry about the guy! The “dream team” has made more progress on the A5 jailbreak by getting out of the “sandbox.” For those who don’t know, the sandbox is a security mechanism that is used to separate running programs. Each sandboxed app only has limited permissions to specific files and directories in the filesystem. Typically they have “read-only” access to the application bundle and “read-write” access to the documents folder. All of the apps you download from the iTunes appstore are …
pod2g makes more progress on A5 untethered jailbreak – possible release next week
The holidays are over now and everyone is really interested in the progress @pod2g has been making. Some good news has just recently come across via his Twitter account. Apparently over the past several hours he has made another step towards finishing the untethered jailbreak for A5 devices iPhone4S and iPad2. He goes on to say that with a little luck he might possibly even be looking at a release date next week.
Keep in mind that developing a jailbreak is full of surprises and unknowns. It’s always nice when a developer can give a general timeframe on when …
pod2g explains how the Corona untether package works
Last week when the iPhone-Dev team released their untethered 5.0.1 jailbreak to the world, the Chronic-Dev team simultaneously released a Cydia package that could untether a previously tethered jailbreak. Corona untether is a Cydia package that can be installed on a 5.0.1 device that is currently jailbroken tethered in order to untether it.
Today, @pod2g has released more information about this tweak and how it works. Be warned, this is a very tech-savvy explanation and probably won’t make much sense to a lot of you, but it is still quite interesting to read about!
1. the user land exploit…
pod2g passes A4 jailbreak off to Chronic Dev Team focuses on A5 jailbreak
Just a bit ago, @pod2g updated his blog once again with more progress on the untethered 4S jailbreak. At this time, the A4 jailbreak is pretty much complete so he has passed it off to the rest of the Chronic-Dev team(presumably so they can continue testing and begin packaging the exploit into a user-friendly GUI tool). In doing so, he has also freed up his time to focus solely on the A5 jailbreak now for iPad2 and iPhone4S.
He still has not provided an exact release date but he does keep saying “soon.” Honestly, at this point, I’d …
More progress made on Untethered iPhone4S jailbreak
Earlier today, we reported that @pod2g had run into issues with the iPhone4S untethered jailbreak he is working on. He had been having issues with the processor cache this weekend but he has found a workaround by doing the untether in a single thread. Apparently, even @saurik has been chipping in information about the launchd boot process for the jailbreak which is usually not something he is part of.
This is in no way an indication of a release date, but it is yet another step in the right direction! Lots of people are asking when the jailbreak …
iPhone 4S Untethered Jailbreak Status Update
Those keeping up with pod2g’s iOS blog may have noticed a new post this morning updating us on the status of the iPhone 4S untethered jailbreak. According to his latest post, he has been making some great progress and is very close but he is having an issue with the processor cache. No update on whether or not he has succeeded with the iPad2 or not. He says he will post more information tomorrow.
Hello.
Here are the news of the 4S week-end.
The untether fails right now because I’m having processor cache issues.
I’m close, but I can’t …
