Will Sunday be funday for the iOS 6.1 jailbreak?

This Sunday, is the highly anticipated Super Bowl between the 49ers and Ravens, but for those of you iOS device users, you might be happy to hear that the release of the jailbreak for iOS 6.1, the new iOS firmware released earlier today, may also be released on Sunday as well. In the past, the jailbreak developers have had a tradition of releasing jailbreaks on Sunday and it appears as though the new jailbreak may follow the same day of release. In a recent tweet, MuscleNerd asks what people have planned for Sunday with a mention of the evad3rs dev

evad3rs jailbreak dev team is the new “Dream Team”

Throughout the years, we have seen a number of various dev teams, the members typically stay the same, but every so often they form under a new alias. Yesterday, pod2g took to Twitter to announce the formation of "the evad3rs," a team consisting of respected iPhone developers @pimskeks, @planetbeing, @MuscleNerd and of course, pod2g himself. With this much talent collaborating, it can't be long before we see an iOS6 jailbreak!

We're not sure why they have chosen to make this announcement at this time, but it looks like these are going to be they …

Pod2g and Planetbeing make some progress on the iOS6 jailbreak

We don't hear much in the way of jailbreak news these days, but as we pointed out earlier this month, there is definitely still progress going on behind the scenes. Last night, Planetbeing made a vague post about making progress with Pod2g. On what they had made progress on was not initially clear, but we hoped that it was something to do with the upcoming jailbreak.

But then early this morning, Pod2g replied to the tweet confirming that it was, in fact, the jailbreak that they had made progress on. Apparently the duo discovered 2 new vulnerabilities that will …

Planetbeing says nothing to worry about for iPhone5 users waiting for jailbreak

World renowned iDevice hacker, @planetbeing, has taken to Reddit recently to rekindle hope in the iOS jailbreak community for an iPhone5/iOS6 jailbreak. In his recent post, planetbeing explains that he has an iPhone5 jailbroken on 6.0.2 currently and the jailbreak is still actively being worked on. The reasons he lists for not releasing the jailbreak are the typical reasons: don't want to reveal exploits to Apple, want to wait for iOS 6.1 to be released, etc.

He goes on to explain that the jailbreak he is running took 4 bugs to get it working and there are most …

Video of Jailbreak Dream Team presentation at HITBSecConf

Last week, we posted an article that gave you a look at what members of the Jailbreak Dream Team look like. Today, courtesy of Redmond Pie, we have a sneak peak of their presentation at the HITBSecConf(Hack in the Box). The video shows some clips from the presentation made by the Dream Team last week. MuscleNerd, Pod2g, P0sixninja, Planetbeing, and Pimskeks can be seen presenting in the video.

Meet the iOS Jailbreak Dream Team, the Hackers Behind Absinthe

pod2g, p0sixninja, planetbeing, pimskeks. If you’re into jailbreaking, you’ve likely heard or seen these names before, but do you know who’s hiding behind these Twitter handles?

Thanks to JailbreakCon’s Craig Fox, we get to see what the guys who brought us the Absinthe untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1 look like. It's great after following the hackers for so long to be able to put a face to the name. From left to right, we have pimskeks, planetbeing, pod2g, and p0sixninja (who’s looking very sad on this picture).

Rocky Racoon iOS 5.1.1 Untethered Jailbreak Package from Cydia

Just this morning, the Chronic Dev Team released the Absinthe 2.0 jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1. For those of you who are already on a tethered 5.1.1 jailbreak, there is also a solution to untether your jailbreak so that you do not have to restore and jailbreak with Absinthe. If you have previously used Redsn0w to perform a tethered jailbreak on your device, simply search for and install the "Rocky Racoon" package in Cydia.

Rocky Racoon is the underlying untethered exploit that will be installed by popular jailbreak tools such as redsn0w and absinthe... if you are using 5.1.1 and you …

Those waiting for Absinthe 2.0 are free to update to 5.1.1 (sans unlockers)

@pod2g has recently given the ok, to iOS device users waiting for the upcoming Absinthe 2.0 jailbreak, to update their devices to 5.1.1. Currently, there is a tethered jailbreak available for A4 and lower devices and within the next few days, an untethered jailbreak will be released for all devices except for the Apple Tv 3, 1. Below is a "quick info sheet" which contains a more descriptive list of the features of the upcoming jailbreak.

Keep in mind that if you do update, you will only be able to perform a tethered jailbreak for now(A4 and lower …

Untethered jailbreak running on The New iPad

Some more progress in the upcoming 5.1 untethered jailbreak has been made today. @pod2g has successfully jailbroken the iPad3(The New iPad). This is great news for owners of the new iPad that were concerned about being able to jailbreak in the near future. This is also good news for iPad2 and iPhone4S users since the jailbreak is sure to work on those devices as well(even though pod2g has personally only jailbroken the iPhone4 and iPad3 so far). The only device he is not sure that it will work on is the new Apple TV. He also provided a video …

pod2g discovered 2 “big” 5.1 vulnerabilities over the weekend

Just a few minutes ago, @pod2g announced on Twitter that he has had a very productive weekend. According to the tweet, he managed to discover 2 "big" vulnerabilities in iOS 5.1. One of them is kernel-land and the other is root-land. This is great news for those eagerly awaiting the 5.1 untethered jailbreak and A5+ device owners who are on 5.1 and waiting for any sort of jailbreak.

Last week, pod2g added a poll on his blog asking the jailbreak community to weigh in on whether he should release the jailbreak as soon as it's ready or if he …

Status update on the iOS 5.1 jailbreak

There have been a lot of questions from viewers since our recent post about the upcoming iOS 5 jailbreak so we thought it would be useful to help clear the air with some more info released today from pod2g.

The good news is that they have managed to bypass the ASLR (Address Space layout randomization) already. The complicated security measure could’ve taken much longer. The bad news is that a public jailbreak still seems to be a ways out…

“ETA for 5.1 JB : no clue! We’re going to set pieces of the puzzle together this week. We could have …

pod2g now has all 5.1 exploits and is working on bypassing ASLR

It's been a while since we've heard anything about the 5.1 jailbreak that many iDevice users are waiting for. The last time we updated the status of the jailbreak, @pod2g said that he and the Chronic-Dev team were working hard on the jailbreak but they didn't have all the exploits needed in order to release a jailbreak. He also stated that even with all the exploits needed, they were still "weeks away" from being able to release anything.

pod2g released another update today that he now has all the exploits needed for the jailbreak. He is now working on …

5.1 Untethered Jailbreak still weeks away according to pod2g

Soon after the release of 5.1, various jailbreak developers started posting images of their A5 and A5X devices jailbroken running 5.1. Of course, this doesn't mean much for end-users since the code they use cannot be distributed nor would end-users know where to begin to use it. Since those first few days after it's release, we haven't heard much in the way of news surrounding the upcoming jailbreak.

Today, @pod2g has released some new info suggesting that we are still weeks away from a public jailbreak. Apparently, the Chronic Dev-Team has bits and pieces of a userland jailbreak, however, …
