Semi-Restore tutorial: How to wipe your iDevice without doing a full restore (iOS 5.0-6.1.2)

ipsw

Last month we brought you news that there was a new iOS restore tool in the works called Semi-Restore. Semi-Restore is a next-to last resort for iOS issues. If you've done everything you can think of to fix your sluggish firmware to no avail and you have a device which doesn't have SHSH blobs for a jailbreakable firmware or you simply have a device that cannot be downgraded, Semi-Restore will wipe your iOS installation clean without actually doing a full restore.

Semi-Restore is available now as a Windows and OSX GUI tool, there is a Linux version in development and …

Enter Semi-Restore, a tool which bills …

NowNow uses activator gestures to invoke Google Now – Siri alternative

gnow

A friend of mine jailbroke his iPhone 4 for the first time yesterday. Being the curious person he is, he started watching YouTube videos about jailbreak tweaks to see what he wanted to install. Not surprisingly, he came across a video detailing a Siri port. He asked me if it would work, and having heard plenty of horror stories about instability and security issues, I advised him to steer clear of any Siri ports. Instead, I started looking for Siri alternatives for him and came across NowNow. NowNow is a very simple jailbreak tweak that lets you assign an Activator …

No evasi0n jailbreak release tonight, confirmed release date tomorrow February 4th

evad3rs

We have been patiently waiting all week for the release of the new iOS6 Evasi0n jailbreak, but it looks like we are going to have to wait one more day. It all started with a vague tweet from MuscleNerd who asked what the evad3rs team was planning for Super Bowl sunday. Rumors continued when someone noticed that all of the devices on the Evasi0n website had "3" on the calendar app, leading people to believe that today, February 3rd, would be the release date.

Unfortunately, just moments ago, PlanetBeing tweeted that the jailbreak will definitely not be released today, but …

evad3rs jailbreak dev team is the new “Dream Team”

evad3rs

Throughout the years, we have seen a number of various dev teams, the members typically stay the same, but every so often they form under a new alias. Yesterday, pod2g took to Twitter to announce the formation of "the evad3rs," a team consisting of respected iPhone developers @pimskeks, @planetbeing, @MuscleNerd and of course, pod2g himself. With this much talent collaborating, it can't be long before we see an iOS6 jailbreak!

We're not sure why they have chosen to make this announcement at this time, but it looks like these are going to be they …

Planetbeing says nothing to worry about for iPhone5 users waiting for jailbreak

reddit

World renowned iDevice hacker, @planetbeing, has taken to Reddit recently to rekindle hope in the iOS jailbreak community for an iPhone5/iOS6 jailbreak. In his recent post, planetbeing explains that he has an iPhone5 jailbroken on 6.0.2 currently and the jailbreak is still actively being worked on. The reasons he lists for not releasing the jailbreak are the typical reasons: don't want to reveal exploits to Apple, want to wait for iOS 6.1 to be released, etc.

He goes on to explain that the jailbreak he is running took 4 bugs to get it working and there are most …

Free iPhone tethering without jailbreak via FlashArmyKnife

fak

Since acquiring my iPhone5, one of the things I have missed more than anything is being able to tether my cellular connection with other devices for free. With no jailbreak, my only option for tethering is to pay Verizon another $30/month for data that I am already paying for. Lucky for me, a new app has just made it's way through Apple's iTunes approval process.

This new app, FlashArmyKinfe, contains a hidden tethering function that allows you to tether your cell connection to any other ad-hoc capable device for free(aside from the app cost of course). The application does …

MapsOpener allows you to set Google Maps as default in iOS6

gmaps

With the recent release of Google Maps for iOS6, the obvious next step was for someone to develop a tweak which allows you to set Google Maps as your default maps app. Well, there is now a tweak available to do just that. HASHBANG Productions has released a new tweak in Cydia for devices that are compatible with the iOS6 tethered jailbreak, called MapsOpener. MapsOpener allows you to set the recently released Google Maps app as your default maps application, effectively causing any map related links to open in Google Maps by default.

For those of us with …

TapIn.tv allows you to become an instant field reporter [App Store Review]

tapintv

I'm excited to announce a great new application in the iTunes store called TapIn.tv. I had the pleasure of beta testing this application for the developers and I have already found plenty of great uses for it. TapIn.tv is an easy-to-use streaming application that allows you to stream video/audio directly from your iDevice to the internet for all of your friends(and even complete strangers) to see and hear.

As technology advances, it is becoming easier and easier to share what you see with other people. TapIn.tv takes that concept to the next level allowing you to instantly stream exactly what …
