This is a tutorial for jailbreaking the iPhone4, iPhone4S, iPad2 and iPad3 using the new Redsn0w 0.9.12b1 release backup/restore method. Redsn0w uses the same backup/restore jailbreak method that is used by Absinthe 2.0.4. This is for an untethered jailbreak on 5.1.1 only, if you are on 5.1 you will have to update before proceeding.

Step 1: Download and extract the latest Redsn0w 0.9.12b1. Click here for the Windows version or here for the OSX version.

Step 2: With your device connected, open up Redsn0w and click the jailbreak button.

Step 3: Once you hit jailbreak, Redsn0w does …

Absinthe 2.0.4 and Rocky Racoon 1.0-3 released for iPad2,4 support

A late model iPad2 Wi-Fi (iPad2,4) has been the only A5 device that was not yet supported by the recent untethered jailbreak exploit, Rocky Racooon. Early this morning, the Chronic-Dev Team released updates to Absinthe and Rocky Racoon so that iPad2,4 users can now finally join the jailbreak crowd. All 5.1.1 jailbreakers will notice an update to Rocky Racoon in Cydia, you can freely update but do not uninstall Rocky Racoon as it is necessary for the jailbreak.

Absinthe 2.0 5.1.1 Untethered Jailbreak has been released!

This morning at the Hack in the Box conference, the Chronic Dev Team unveiled the much anticipated iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak by way of their new tool, Absinthe 2.0. The new tool can perform on untethered jailbreak on just about any device that supports 5.1.1 except for the Apple TV.

Known as the “iOS Jailbreak Dream Team”, @p0sixninja, @pod2g, @planetbeing, @pimskeks released the untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1 on the final day of the week-long conference. Echoing Steve Jobs’ trademark WWDC encore of ‘… and one more thing’, the team announced the release of Absinthe 2.0 during the closing minutes …

Untethered 5.1.1 Jailbreak to be released in a few weeks

Well, it turns out the poll on @pod2g's blog paid off as he has announced that the new jailbreak he has been working on will be released in the next few weeks instead of waiting for iOS6 to be released to see if the exploits are still available. There are some oddities in the compatibility of this upcoming jailbreak. Apparently the jailbreak will work on iOS 5.1.1 with most devices, however the iPod3G, iPhone3Gs and AppleTV 3 are currently excluded. However, old bootrom 3Gs users will be able to use this jailbreak, it is only the new bootrom …

Fix Error 37 and Jailbreak Failed: Service Wouldn’t Start after downgrading A5/A5X Device

Earlier today we posted a method to downgrade A5 and A5X devices. Since then, we have been hearing of a few errors either with the downgrade method itself, or with jailbreaking after finishing the downgrade process.

The first error happens during the downgrade process, iTunes Error 37. I still have not been able to determine exactly what causes this error, but there are a few tips I can give you to try and solve the issue. First of all, if you are a Windows user, make sure you are running Redsn0w as administrator(you should always do this when running …

How to downgrade iPhone4S iPad2 and The New iPad using Redsn0w 0.9.11b1

The new Redsn0w 0.9.11b2 has been released now which will allow A5+ device users who have saved their SHSH blobs previously to be able to downgrade their firmware. This was not previously possible since the previous downgrade method required the limera1n exploit which does not exist on A5+ devices. Remember that you must have saved the SHSH for the firmware you wish to downgrade to while that firmware was being signe for this to work. If you did not save your SHSH this will not work(and no, you cannot use an SHSH from a different device).

Now there is one …

Untethered jailbreak running on The New iPad

Some more progress in the upcoming 5.1 untethered jailbreak has been made today. @pod2g has successfully jailbroken the iPad3(The New iPad). This is great news for owners of the new iPad that were concerned about being able to jailbreak in the near future. This is also good news for iPad2 and iPhone4S users since the jailbreak is sure to work on those devices as well(even though pod2g has personally only jailbroken the iPhone4 and iPad3 so far). The only device he is not sure that it will work on is the new Apple TV. He also provided a video …

Redsn0w 0.9.10b7 released with many new features including Corona exploit for A5 jailbreaking

It's been 3 months since the release of the Absinthe untethered jailbreak for A5 devices(iPhone4S and iPad2). Today the iPhone-Dev team has announced the release of Redsn0w 0.9.10b7 which finally brings the Corona exploit to Redsn0w so you can now jailbreak the iPad2 and the iPhone4S on 5.0.1 using the new version of the tool.

Besides the addition of A5 jailbreaking capabilities, the new Redsn0w brings some other new features as well. One of the great new features is that if you wish to make a custom firmware with your SHSH blobs stitched directly into the file, Redsn0w can now …

ih8sn0w discovers an APTicket loophole which allows downgrading iPad2 and iPhone4S from 5.1 to 5.0.1

Just a few minutes ago, @ih8sn0w the creator of Sn0wbreeze announced on Twitter that he has found a loophole in Apple's APTicket system which allowed him to downgrade his iPad2 from 5.1 to 5.0.1. He went on to say that the loophole not only works on the iPad2, but also the iPhone4S. Also, he has stated that once a new firmware is released for the iPad3, the loophole will also work to downgrade that device.

At this point, we don't have much information about this loophole or how/when it will be implemented into the the jailbreak tools, but there …

Stefan (i0n1c) Esser discovers iOS 5.1 Jailbreak exploit and successfully jailbreaks iPad2 on 5.1

Stefan (ion1c) Esser, the now infamous German hacker who brought us the untethered jailbreak exploit for a majority of the iOS4 firmware revisions has done it again. As you already know, A4 devices have already been able to be jailbroken on 5.1 tethered, since they are susceptible to the limera1n bootrom exploit which can never be patched. However, pod2g and the others have been hard at work trying to locate vulnerabilities in the 5.1 firmware itself so that jailbreaks can extend to A5 devices(iPad2 and iPhone4S) and also to the upcoming A5X device, the New iPad.

Earlier today, …
