Gridlock 2.0 released for iOS6 compatibility

Today, one of the last tweaks I have been waiting to use on my iPhone 5, Gridlock 2.0, was released to add compatibility for iOS 6. This tweak is essential for any devoted themer. The tweak allows you to position your app/folder icons anywhere on your Springboard without the rest of the icons shifting around. This tweak works out great for themes with widgets or custom icon layouts.

Unfortunately, the developer @chpwn has implemented an upgrade fee for those who had already purchased the original Gridlock. For new users, the tweak will cost $4.99, for those who are …

Evasi0n 1-click jailbreak is great, but how does it work!?

I first entered the jailbreak world back in 2010 when I purchased an iPhone3Gs with 3.1.2. At that time, jailbreaking had already been simplified quite a bit and was easy as cake compared to a 74-step jailbreak that came about in the early years of iOS. Nowadays, jailbreakers are spoiled with easy-to-use single click jailbreaks, where all of the difficult commands and exploits are neatly compiled into scripts that run in the background.

Because of this, it is easy to forget just how much work actually goes into these jailbreaks. Peter Morgan, Ryan Smith, Braden Thomas, and Josh Thomas from …

Evad3rs team names hidden in jailbreak icon

Well, since Cydia is still bogged down with traffic and it doesn't look like it's gonna clear up any time soon, how about this for an Easter Egg!? It has been discovered that the names of members of the Evad3rs dev team are hidden in the jailbreak icon that Evasi0n 1.0 installs on your device prior to installing Cydia. How many names can you spot!?

Evasi0n iOS6 jailbreak has entered the beta testing phase

With no definitive release date for the Evasi0n iOS6 jailbreak, I'm sure some of you, like me, have been refreshing the Evasi0n website for the past few days to watch the progress bar grow. Sometime this morning the bar reached 75% and entered the private beta stage that we discussed in our Evasi0n jailbreak announcement a few days ago. Yesterday, the site informed us that the tool had been completed for OSX and Windows, it appears as though the Linux version is still being worked on currently.

It is definitely looking more and more likely that we will be …

Evasi0n new iOS 6.x jailbreak website now live!

In anticipation for the upcoming iOS 6.x jailbreak, the evad3rs dev team has launched the official website for their new tool, dubbed the Evasi0n jailbreak. The upcoming jailbreak has been confirmed to work on ALL current devices running any iOS 6 firmware(6.0-6.1). The tool will work on Windows, Mac or Linux initially.

The evasi0n website also shows that there will be a private beta tester phase as well. It has been widely rumored, due to some Tweets, that the jailbreak will be released this Sunday, but unless the beta stage is initiated within the next few days, that may …

Will Sunday be funday for the iOS 6.1 jailbreak?

This Sunday, is the highly anticipated Super Bowl between the 49ers and Ravens, but for those of you iOS device users, you might be happy to hear that the release of the jailbreak for iOS 6.1, the new iOS firmware released earlier today, may also be released on Sunday as well. In the past, the jailbreak developers have had a tradition of releasing jailbreaks on Sunday and it appears as though the new jailbreak may follow the same day of release. In a recent tweet, MuscleNerd asks what people have planned for Sunday with a mention of the evad3rs dev

evad3rs jailbreak dev team is the new “Dream Team”

Throughout the years, we have seen a number of various dev teams, the members typically stay the same, but every so often they form under a new alias. Yesterday, pod2g took to Twitter to announce the formation of "the evad3rs," a team consisting of respected iPhone developers @pimskeks, @planetbeing, @MuscleNerd and of course, pod2g himself. With this much talent collaborating, it can't be long before we see an iOS6 jailbreak!

We're not sure why they have chosen to make this announcement at this time, but it looks like these are going to be they …

Pod2g and Planetbeing make some progress on the iOS6 jailbreak

We don't hear much in the way of jailbreak news these days, but as we pointed out earlier this month, there is definitely still progress going on behind the scenes. Last night, Planetbeing made a vague post about making progress with Pod2g. On what they had made progress on was not initially clear, but we hoped that it was something to do with the upcoming jailbreak.

But then early this morning, Pod2g replied to the tweet confirming that it was, in fact, the jailbreak that they had made progress on. Apparently the duo discovered 2 new vulnerabilities that will …

Planetbeing says nothing to worry about for iPhone5 users waiting for jailbreak

World renowned iDevice hacker, @planetbeing, has taken to Reddit recently to rekindle hope in the iOS jailbreak community for an iPhone5/iOS6 jailbreak. In his recent post, planetbeing explains that he has an iPhone5 jailbroken on 6.0.2 currently and the jailbreak is still actively being worked on. The reasons he lists for not releasing the jailbreak are the typical reasons: don't want to reveal exploits to Apple, want to wait for iOS 6.1 to be released, etc.

He goes on to explain that the jailbreak he is running took 4 bugs to get it working and there are most …

MapsOpener allows you to set Google Maps as default in iOS6

With the recent release of Google Maps for iOS6, the obvious next step was for someone to develop a tweak which allows you to set Google Maps as your default maps app. Well, there is now a tweak available to do just that. HASHBANG Productions has released a new tweak in Cydia for devices that are compatible with the iOS6 tethered jailbreak, called MapsOpener. MapsOpener allows you to set the recently released Google Maps app as your default maps application, effectively causing any map related links to open in Google Maps by default.

For those of us with …

Google Maps for iOS6 now available in iTunes store

It seems as though ever since Apple ditched Google Maps for their own version of GPS mapping, rumors have been flying about Google releasing a standalone app in the iTunes App Store. I had been using iOS 5.1.1 up until recently, when I swapped my 4S for an iPhone 5 so I hadn't yet experienced Apple maps(sans some experimentation in the early beta versions). I have to say that I haven't really experienced any major issues with Apple maps in the few days I have been using it, however there have been loads of people loathing over the application on …

Dream JB untethered iOS6 jailbreak proof to be released today [UPDATED]

UPDATE: The Dream JB has been confirmed fake. Read more details here.

Well, today is the day we will finally get a better idea of the legitimacy of the Dream JB untethered iOS6 jailbreak which will purportedly work on any iOS6 device. This includes an iPhone5 jailbreak as well as a jailbreak for the latest iPads. Of course we are quite skeptical over the claims being made by the anonymous developer who says he is not affiliated with any of the current dev teams. However, the lack of any sort of progress on an iOS6 jailbreak is more …
