Sn0wbreeze 2.9.4 released to create prejailbroken iOS 5.1.1 firmware for unlockers

@ih8sn0w has updated his popular custom firmware creation tool Sn0wbreeze. Sn0wbreeze 2.9.4 adds support for the creation of custom(pre-jailbroken) firmware that you can restore which will preserve the baseband of your iPhone. This tool is essential for software/hardware unlockers who need to maintain a specific baseband in order to be able to unlock their device. While creating your custom 5.1.1 firmware you have a few different options. One option is to create a pre-jailbroken firmware, this means that once you restore the custom firmware you will already be jailbroken and there will be no need to run Absinthe or …

ih8sn0w discovers an APTicket loophole which allows downgrading iPad2 and iPhone4S from 5.1 to 5.0.1

Just a few minutes ago, @ih8sn0w the creator of Sn0wbreeze announced on Twitter that he has found a loophole in Apple's APTicket system which allowed him to downgrade his iPad2 from 5.1 to 5.0.1. He went on to say that the loophole not only works on the iPad2, but also the iPhone4S. Also, he has stated that once a new firmware is released for the iPad3, the loophole will also work to downgrade that device.

At this point, we don't have much information about this loophole or how/when it will be implemented into the the jailbreak tools, but there …

Sn0wbreeze 2.9.1 released for 2-year anniversary bringing many new features!

Today is the two-year anniversary of Sn0wbreeze and @ih8sn0w has gone all out with his latest release, Sn0wbreeze 2.9.1. One feature that jailbreakers have been waiting for is a way to use TinyUmbrella/iFaith blobs in Sn0wbreeze, this new release allows you to stitch SHSH from either program directly into your firmware. Now that 5.1 will be coming out soon, many people will be stuck with the annoying update badge that will display above the settings icon. Of course there are Cydia applications that can take care of that, but if you choose Sn0wbreeze 2.9 allows for you to …

iReb r5 update released for entering Pwned-DFU mode on Windows

iReb is a tool bundled with Sn0wbreeze(or as a standalone application). @ih8sn0w has released a new version of his Pwned-DFU tool, iReb, after 10 months without an update. iReb is mainly used for restoring custom firmware, usually made with Sn0wbreeze. It allows you to put your device into a Pwned-DFU state in order for iTunes to accept the firmware instead of displaying 16xx errors. iReb also serves other purposes such as fixing recovery mode loops and grabbing SHSH blobs. The newest version is much smaller in size(390kb) and also fixes a few issues and increases speed on some devices. …

iFaith 1.4 released allowing iOS 5.0 downgrade and APTicket Insurance

Apple has been locking down jailbreaks more and more with each new release of iOS. One of their more recent attempts has been to revamp the SHSH system. As of 5.0, it became impossible to replay your SHSH key in order to downgrade your firmware once you have upgraded. Fortunately for users with A4 or lower devices, iFaith has not been rendered useless.

iFaith 1.4 was released tonight which adds support for all firmware up to 5.0.1. You can now dump the SHSH of whatever firmware you are currently on and use it to downgrade in the future. This means …

Ultrasn0w 1.2.4 and Redsn0w 0.9.9b5 to be released later today

Now that iOS5 has been released, the iPhone-Dev team is scrambling to update their software to support the new firmware. Since it has been revealed that the public release of iOS5 is identical to the GM release from a few days ago, the current version of Redsn0w can already be used to perform a tethered jailbreak by pointing the software at a GM release of iOS5. An update, Redsn0w 0.9.9b5 will be released later today so that you won't have to specify a firmware.

Also, for unlockers, even though you can use the current beta version of Sn0wbreeze 2.8b8, we …

iFaith aka ProjectiF is the first public SHSH dumper

It is an SHSH dumper which can dump a firmware blob(needed to downgrade firmware) from your currently installed firmware, even if  Apple is no longer signing that firmware and you didn't save your SHSH while it was being signed.
