Jailbreak iOS 6 Beta with Redsn0w (Video Tutorial)

The other day we mentioned that a new release from the iPhone-Dev Team, Redsn0w 0.9.13dev1 can perform a tethered jailbreak of iOS 6 beta firmware on A4 and lower devices. This jailbreak uses the limera1n bootrom exploit which is why it won't work on A5(X) devices. This jailbreak also does not install Cydia. All package installation and transferring must be done via SSH or afc2. This is a video tutorial on how to jailbreak iOS 6 beta on an iPhone 3Gs/4 or iPod Touch 4.

New to jailbreaking? Read this!

Welcome new/potential jailbreaker from myself and the iPhoneBlogr team. You probably have a lot of questions that we all had when first jailbreaking. I'll answer the questions that I get a lot from people that ask me to jailbreak their device, are planning on jailbreaking or have already done so. If you have any questions that you think I should add, please send me an email at (covxx@iphoneblogr.com). I'll also cover some tweaks/apps that I think you should install first.

1. What dose jailbreaking do?

Jailbreaking in the simplest way lets you install things that you normally can't. For …

Ultrasn0w 1.2.5 adding 5.0.1 unlock support to be released later today

Just a bit ago, @MuscleNerd announced the released of Redsn0w 0.9.9b9 which adds 5.0.1 native compatibility as well as a bunch of new features. One footnote you may have missed is that later today(Monday) Ultrasn0w 1.2.5 will be released to add support for iOS 5.0.1. Until now you have had to use the Ultrasn0w 5.0.1 fix in order to unlock on that firmware, with this update of Ultrasn0w you will no longer need to do that.

To be clear, this does NOT add support for any new basebands, only compatibility with the 5.0.1 firmware for basebands which have already …

Redsn0w 0.9.9b9 released adding native 5.0.1 support and a slew of new features and compatibility

The jailbreak community is still without an untethered jailbreak or an A5 compatible jailbreak and the world feels empty. Luckily for us, MuscleNerd has just announced a new version of Redsn0w 0.9.9b9. This update not only adds the long awaited native 5.0.1 support(no more need for specifying 5.0 IPSW) but also a bunch of new features, including a TinyCFW-like feature. You can check out our Redsn0w 0.9.9b9 jailbreak tutorial if you want some insight on how to use it.

Redsn0w 0.9.9b9 - Win
Redsn0w 0.9.9b9 - OSX

Sn0wbreeze 2.8b9 and Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 released to add iOS beta 5.0.1 support

For developers who have updated to the iOS 5.0.1 firmware that was released yesterday and would like to jailbreak, MuscleNerd and the iPhone-Dev team have released Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 and ih8sn0w has released Sn0wbreeze 2.8b9 to add support for the new beta firmware.

Redsn0w users, the new update does natively detect the new 5.0.1 firmware but because the firmware is not yet public, you will have to specify the firmware the first time you run it, but from there Redsn0w will cache the necessary files and you shouldn't have to specify the firmware again.

For those who want to update to …

Important announcement for iPhone3Gs users on 06.15.00 baseband updating to iOS5

Along with the release of iOS5 compatible Ultrasn0w 1.2.4 yesterday, the iPhone-Dev team added a special note for iPhone3Gs users who have updated to the 06.15.00 iPad baseband or plan on doing so. Just like any other unlockers, 06.15.00 baseband users should NEVER update to a new firmware using a stock firmware. Even though the iPad baseband cannot be upgraded, trying to install a factory firmware may screw up the baseband.

If you have already tried updating to iOS5 stock firmware on your phone with 06.15.00 you will probably have to reinstall the iPad baseband. For those who updated with …

Redsn0w 0.9.9b2 fixes issues with Verizon firmware adds support for SHSH stitching and Fix Recovery

Over the past few days, MuscleNerd and the iPhone-dev team have been making some updates to Redsn0w. These updates were to fix some issues with Verizon iPhone firmware processing and adds support for SHSH stitching which allows you to "stitch" your SHSH right into the firmware file itself so that in the future if you need to downgrade or restore an earlier firmware you can use just the stitched firmware with iTunes(no need for TinyUmbrella!)

The current version of Redsn0w is 0.9.9b2 and can be downloaded below:
Redsn0w 0.9.9b2 - Win
Redsn0w 0.9.9.b2 - OSX

Redsn0w 0.9.8b7c Fixes Error 1015 During 4.3.5 Firmware Restore

If you are one of the iPhone3Gs users that has updated your baseband to 06.15.00 in order to unlock, you may have realized that it is not possible for you to do a factory restore in iTunes. This is because the iPad baseband causes what is known as a "baseband panic" when you try to restore. The iPhone is not supposed to be able to run 06.15.00 so it causes iTunes to error out. Because of this, the only way to restore using the iPad baseband is to create a custom firmware using Sn0wbreeze or Pwnage Tool. Of course, neither …

How to downgrade GSM iPhone from 4.3.4/4.3.5 to 4.3.3 [Tutorial]

I will begin this tutorial the same way I began the Verizon iPhone4 Downgrade tutorial by saying that you MUST have your 4.3.3 SHSH key saved in order to downgrade from 4.3.4 or 4.3.5. This tutorial will not work if you do not have your SHSH key. If you do not know what an SHSH key is then you most likely do not have it saved. You can check out our What is an SHSH file post.

Step 1: Create a custom 4.3.3 firmware file using either Pwnage Tool or Sn0wbreeze 2.7.3(Win). This is the firmware …

How to downgrade Verizon iPhone4 from 4.2.9/4.2.10 to 4.2.8 [Tutorial]

Let me begin this tutorial by saying that you MUST have your 4.2.8 SHSH key saved in order to downgrade from 4.2.9 or 4.2.10. This tutorial will not work if you do not have your SHSH key. If you do not know what an SHSH key is then you most likely do not have it saved. You can check out our What is an SHSH file post.

Step 1: Create a custom 4.2.8 firmware file using either our Pwnage Tool 4.2.8(OSX) tutorial or our Sn0wbreeze 2.7.3(Win) tutorial. This is the firmware you will restore in order to …

iOS 4.3.5 and iOS 4.2.10 released do not update!

Just days after the release of iOS 4.3.4/4.2.9, Apple has released another minor update 4.3.5/4.2.10. This update is a patch to fix a security vulnerability with certificate validation. i0n1c's untether exploit was patched in 4.3.4/4.2.9 so like those firmwares, the only option to jailbreak 4.3.5 or jailbreak 4.2.10 is to use Redsn0w for an tethered jailbreak.…

Today, Apple has released the 4th beta version of iOS5 to Apple Developers. This new version brings some bugfixes as well as some new additions. iOS 4.3.4 and 4.2.9 are out now do not update

Apple has now released iOS 4.3.4 and 4.2.9 for the Verizon iPhone which patch the PDF exploit that was used for JailbreakMe 3.0. As always, do not update to 4.3.4 if you want to keep your jailbreak. If you still haven't done so, please save your SHSH for 4.3.3 while Apple is still signing it since the window will close shortly.
