Fix Error 37 and Jailbreak Failed: Service Wouldn’t Start after downgrading A5/A5X Device

servicewouldntstart

Earlier today we posted a method to downgrade A5 and A5X devices. Since then, we have been hearing of a few errors either with the downgrade method itself, or with jailbreaking after finishing the downgrade process.

The first error happens during the downgrade process, iTunes Error 37. I still have not been able to determine exactly what causes this error, but there are a few tips I can give you to try and solve the issue. First of all, if you are a Windows user, make sure you are running Redsn0w as administrator(you should always do this when running …

How to downgrade iPhone4S iPad2 and The New iPad using Redsn0w 0.9.11b1

downgrade

The new Redsn0w 0.9.11b2 has been released now which will allow A5+ device users who have saved their SHSH blobs previously to be able to downgrade their firmware. This was not previously possible since the previous downgrade method required the limera1n exploit which does not exist on A5+ devices. Remember that you must have saved the SHSH for the firmware you wish to downgrade to while that firmware was being signe for this to work. If you did not save your SHSH this will not work(and no, you cannot use an SHSH from a different device).

Now there is one …

Redsn0w 0.9.11 to include A5 and A5X Downgrading capabilities

downgrade

When iOS 5.1.1 was released, @musclenerd tweeted that there was an SHSH downgrade method for A5+ devices that Apple knew about but had not patched in 5.1.1. Today, some great news was released by musclenerd, an upcoming Redsn0w release will include the ability to downgrade iPhone4S, iPad2 and iPad3 from 5.1.1 to 5.1 or 5.0.1 provided you had saved your SHSH blobs while Apple was still signing those firmwares.

Redsn0w 0.9.11 is still in beta, but it shouldn’t be long before we see a public release and A5+ users who were forced to, or “accidentally,” updated their devices …

iPad gets the BBTicket treatment in TinyUmbrella 5.10.14

tinyumbrella

Yesterday we reported on a new release of TinyUmbrella which implemented BBTicket saving for iPhone’s, the BBTicket will most likely be utilized in future downgrading methods so it is reccomended that any users who wish to downgrade in the future use this new version of TinyUmbrella to save not only their SHSH but also their BBTicket.

Today, a new update has been released which extends the BBTicket support to iPads. This will work to save BBTickets for iPad2 and iPad3 on GSM or CDMA. Make sure that you don’t have “Request SHSH from Cydia” checked under advanced settings, and also …

TinyUmbrella 5.10.11 released to save your device’s BBTicket

tinyumbrella

@notcom announced today that he had released an update to TinyUmbrella, the SHSH saving tool used to downgrade various iDevices. The new release includes a feature that will save your BBTicket, a new form of security Apple implemented a while back in order to prevent people from downgrading. It is likely that once there is a method released for downgrading A5+ devices, that you will need your BBTicket in order to downgrade.

The new version, TinyUmbrella 5.10.11 is available now, the BBTicket saving is “silent” so you won’t actually see it being saved, but it will automatically …

5.1 Untethered Jailbreak still weeks away according to pod2g

51

Soon after the release of 5.1, various jailbreak developers started posting images of their A5 and A5X devices jailbroken running 5.1. Of course, this doesn’t mean much for end-users since the code they use cannot be distributed nor would end-users know where to begin to use it. Since those first few days after it’s release, we haven’t heard much in the way of news surrounding the upcoming jailbreak.

Today, @pod2g has released some new info suggesting that we are still weeks away from a public jailbreak. Apparently, the Chronic Dev-Team has bits and pieces of a userland jailbreak, however, …

ih8sn0w discovers an APTicket loophole which allows downgrading iPad2 and iPhone4S from 5.1 to 5.0.1

downgrade

Just a few minutes ago, @ih8sn0w the creator of Sn0wbreeze announced on Twitter that he has found a loophole in Apple’s APTicket system which allowed him to downgrade his iPad2 from 5.1 to 5.0.1. He went on to say that the loophole not only works on the iPad2, but also the iPhone4S. Also, he has stated that once a new firmware is released for the iPad3, the loophole will also work to downgrade that device.

At this point, we don’t have much information about this loophole or how/when it will be implemented into the the jailbreak tools, but there …

iOS 5.1 beta 3 confirmed to have patched the Corona untethered jailbreak exploit

coronapatched

A few days ago we reported that Apple had released iOS 5.1 beta 3 to developers. It has now been confirmed that the latest beta patches the recently released Corona jailbreak exploit. This means that users who wish to jailbreak their devices must either stay on 5.0.1 or upgrade to 5.0.1. This is especially important for iPhone4S users and iPad2 users since there is not present way to downgrade those devices at this time.

You still have a while, but we highly reccommend updating to 5.0.1 soon before 5.1 is released. Once it is released you will only have …

TinyCFW Windows Fix Maximum Heap Size Error

TinyCFW

For those using yesterday’s TinyCFW release to downgrade iPad2 to 4.3.3 and are running into issues with the executable there is a fix you can try below. For me I got the error “ jvm could not start-the maximum heap size (-Xms) might be too large or a antivirus is blocking the execution.” Since i didn’t have a firewall or anti-virus running I knew that wasn’t the problem. Below you can find the fix I used:

Start – Control Panel – System – Advanced system settings

Advanced (tab) and click on “Environment Variables”

Under “User variables..” click on “New”

Then …

TinyCFW Alpha Released Build a Custom CFW for iPhone4 and iPad2 Downgrade iPad2 to 4.3.3 with SHSH

TinyCFW

*UPDATE* Windows users, if you are having issues check out our TinyCFW fix.

Today, @notcom the creator of the popular iOS SHSH saving tool, TinyUmbrella has released a new application called TinyCFW. This tool is something that he coded for his friend for restoring 4.3.3 on his iPad2. Right now if you try to do this with the tools available you would get stuck in a 1015 loop because iTunes would cause a baseband panic when it tried downgrading your baseband. The nice thing about this tool is that it will allow users to Downgrade

iFaith 1.4 released allowing iOS 5.0 downgrade and APTicket Insurance

ifaith

Apple has been locking down jailbreaks more and more with each new release of iOS. One of their more recent attempts has been to revamp the SHSH system. As of 5.0, it became impossible to replay your SHSH key in order to downgrade your firmware once you have upgraded. Fortunately for users with A4 or lower devices, iFaith has not been rendered useless.

iFaith 1.4 was released tonight which adds support for all firmware up to 5.0.1. You can now dump the SHSH of whatever firmware you are currently on and use it to downgrade in the future. This means …

Save SHSH for 5.0.1 with TinyUmbrella 5.01.00 – MuscleNerd begins work on iOS5 downgrading

shsh

Today, @notcom has released TinyUmbrella 5.01.00 which adds tentative iOS 5.0.1 support. Using this new version of TinyUmbrella you can save your SHSH for 5.0.1. Even though you can save your SHSH, there is still no way to downgrade using your SHSH because of Apple’s blob monster.

Even though there is still no working solution for restoring 5.x on iPhone 4S I have released a 5.01.00 so you can at least save 5.0.1 SHSH. I have added tentative support for at least saving 5.0.1 SHSHs for iPhone 4S but as of now we are unable to use them …
