New to jailbreaking? Read this!

beginnerjailbreka

Welcome new/potential jailbreaker from myself and the iPhoneBlogr team. You probably have a lot of questions that we all had when first jailbreaking. I’ll answer the questions that I get a lot from people that ask me to jailbreak their device, are planning on jailbreaking or have already done so. If you have any questions that you think I should add, please send me an email at (covxx@iphoneblogr.com). I’ll also cover some tweaks/apps that I think you should install first.

1. What dose jailbreaking do?

Jailbreaking in the simplest way lets you install things that you normally can’t. For …

pod2g passes A4 jailbreak off to Chronic Dev Team focuses on A5 jailbreak

pod2g

Just a bit ago, @pod2g updated his blog once again with more progress on the untethered 4S jailbreak. At this time, the A4 jailbreak is pretty much complete so he has passed it off to the rest of the Chronic-Dev team(presumably so they can continue testing and begin packaging the exploit into a user-friendly GUI tool). In doing so, he has also freed up his time to focus solely on the A5 jailbreak now for iPad2 and iPhone4S.

He still has not provided an exact release date but he does keep saying “soon.” Honestly, at this point, I’d …

Redsn0w 0.9.9b9d fixes old bootrom 3Gs issues

redsn0w

Shortly after the release of Redsn0w 0.9.9b9, MuscleNerd announced that the newest version of their jailbreak tool would cause issues for old-bootrom 3Gs users. To remedy that issue, they have now released Redsn0w 0.9.9b9d. If you don’t have an old-bootrom 3Gs you don’t have to worry about this new release. If you DO have an old-bootrom 3Gs and you used Redsn0w 0.9.9b9 to jailbreak, you will have to download and re-run this new version but you can do it right over the top of your current jailbreak so as not to lose anything.

Pod2G releases new untethered 5.0 jailbreak video will work on 5.0.1 as well!

pod2g

Today, @pod2g the famous hacker from the Chronic-Dev team has released a new YouTube video demonstrating his untethered iOS5 jailbreak. The other good news is that he has announced that this jailbreak can quickly be ported to work with 5.0.1 as well, so those who updated, either accidentally or not, are in luck!

There is still no ETA on a release of the iOS5 untethered jailbreak, but it is great to hear from pod2g after such a long silence after his initial announcement that he was working on the jailbreak.…

Ac1dSn0w is out now – how to jailbreak with AcidSn0w Beta 1

pwndev

A few days ago we told you about a new jailbreak tool coming to the scene called Ac1dSn0w by the Pwn Dev Team. Today Beta 1 of their new software has been released and is available for OSX. Unfortunately this first beta version does not include the remote jailbreaking feature or custom firmware creation we originally reported.

Just to be clear this is NOT an untethered jailbreak and does not support iPhone4S or iPad2(since it uses the same limera1n exploit as all the other current jailbreaks). This first release has very limited compatibility and does not add anything new so …

Soon you will be able to help developers find future jailbreak exploits!

crashreport

An interesting bit of information has begun to make it’s rounds on twitter tonight. As the whole jailbreak community patiently awaits the release of an iOS5 untethered jailbreak for all devices, an interesting new tool is coming to fruition that will allow everyday average jailbreakers to help developers find exploits for use in future jailbreaks.

With what little information we have now, it appears as though this will be done by installing an application on your computer that will tie into iTunes and collect data from your device. This data will contain crash reports from your phone that will allow …

How to jailbreak iOS5 with Redsn0w 0.9.9b5

With today’s official iOS5 release, redsn0w has been updated to 0.9.9b5 to include the public URLs for the IPSW files.  This way, first-time iOS5 jailbreakers don’t need to supply the IPSW file manually.  It’s still a tethered jailbreak on all except the old-bootrom iPhone3GS, and it doesn’t

Did you miss MyGreatFest aka JailbreakCon – Watch Online

jbcon

A few days ago, MyGreatFest, now known as JailbreakCon, the world’s first jailbreak convention was held in London. In case you missed it and you were interested in seeing it in it’s entirety, a few attendees did a LiveStream that is now available to watch online. There are some great keynote speeches that will tell you all about how jailbreaking got started, where it is now, where it is going and how the devs got into it.

The whole thing is ended with an extensive Q&A session with Jay “saurik” Freeman who answers tons of questions about Cydia, jailbreaking and …

MyGreatFest – The World’s First Jailbreak Convention Starts Tomorrow (Live Coverage)

mygreatfest

The long anticipated convention, MyGreatFest, which will be the world’s first jailbreaking convention is set to begin at 9am tomorrow morning. Don’t ask me why it’s called “MyGreatFest,” I’m still trying to figure that out myself Regardless, this event is scheduled to have some high-profile names in the jailbreaking scene. Jay Freeman aka @saurik is scheduled to give a keynote and a QA session as well as Chronic-Dev team members @p0sixninja and @iOPK.

The event is scheduled to take place in an old brewery in London so unfortunately those of us living outside of that area …

Status of iOS5 Untethered Jailbreak

ios5untethered

We are nearing the estimated release date of the iPhone5 and the new iOS5 firmware to go public. Because of this, we have been having a lot of questions regarding an untethered iOS5 jailbreak. Of course there have been tethered jailbreaks available for all iOS5 betas so far and this has caused some people to think that an untethered version will be available as soon as iOS5 is released.

The problem with that theory is that the only reason there have been tethered jailbreaks available for the betas is because it uses the limera1n exploit which is bootrom-level and Apple …

Tethered iOS5 Jailbreak Using Redsn0w 0.9.8b1 Tutorial

ios5

The iPhone-Dev team has already released their tethered jailbreak for the iOS5 beta firmware. As we announced earlier, iOS5 is still susceptible to the limera1n exploit and therefore it was very easy for the dev-team to update their software to support the new firmware. Unfortunately, it appears that @i0n1cs untetthered exploit has been patched in iOS5 so it could be quite some time before we get an untethered jailbreak.

Greenpois0n RC6.2 updates iPad2 jailbreak 4.3.x support and the State of Chronic

thumb

The Chr0nic Dev team is the group of hackers behind the Greenpois0n jailbreak. Many have been wondering what they have been up to since their software still only supports up to version 4.2.1 of the iOS firmware. Earlier today they did a comprehensive update on their blog explaining what they have been working on and what is to come.

Of course, everyone is holding their breath for the upcoming iPad2 jailbreak. @p0sixninja has recently made an announcement that an exploit could be developed in as little as a few weeks. However, we all know that release dates should …

Greenpois0n RC7 Untethered Jailbreak for iPad2 on it’s way

greenpois0nipad2

As you know, @comex had initially been successful at creating an iPad2 jailbreak but it was immediately patched by Apple in 4.3.1 and there was much controversy surrounding the patch as it had been stated that the likelihood of Apple finding the exploit on their own was not high. Because of this, it was suspected that there was a mole working with Apple to relay exploit information. The actual facts are yet to be uncovered.

However, today we received good news from Joshua Hill aka @p0sixninja of the Chronic Dev Team. He posted on Twitter a few …
