The iPhone-Dev Team has released Redsn0w 0.9.10b5 tonight which fixes yet another anti-piracy measure built into the iBooks application. The fix is called "crazeles" that patches the jailbreak detection. As usual, you can simply run this new version of Redsn0w over the top of your current Redsn0w jailbreak(be sure to de-select "install Cydia") or you can install the Corona package in Cydia which uses the same fix.

JailbreakMe.com has been purchased by Saurik and is once again home to Comex jailbreak

jailbreakme

A few days ago we announced that the owner of JailbreakMe.com had gone rogue and replaced Comex' JailbreakMe exploit with a tribute to Steve Jobs. At that time, they had purchased the domain Jailbreaks.me which was to take the place of JailbreakMe.com. However, MuscleNerd has now announced that Saurik was able to purchase the domain from the original owner and the popular jailbreaking site has been restored permanently to it's original JailbreakMe.com home.

JailbreakMe.com is dead Jailbreaks.me is the new home of Comex’ jailbreak

jailbreakme

Update: Saurik was able to purchase the original JailbreakMe.com domain from the owner and has now restored JailbreakMe 3.0. Please disregard this post.

Last month we reported that @comex had been hired by Apple. Since then, he has been anything but silent in the jailbreaking scene, much to our surprise and delight! Over the past few days, the owner of the JailbreakMe.com domain, where Comex hosts his popular JailbreakMe 3.0 website, has replaced the jailbreak tool with a tribute to Steve Jobs. Both @MuscleNerd and comex warn that @ConceitedApps, the owner of the domain who …

Comex has been hired by Apple as an intern

comex

Well, this week has been a crazy one for Apple to say the least. First the unexpected and abrupt resignation of Steve Jobs and now @comex has announced, via Twitter, that he wil begin an internship with Apple in two weeks. Of course, this was to be expected. Obviously, the best candidate for a job finding security holes is a person who has been finding them as a hobby for years now.

Of course, this is a double-edged sword. On one hand, I am happy for Comex for getting an internship with Apple, he really deserves it. On the …

Apple Credits comex with the Saffron exploit used in JailbreakMe

comex

@comex has now been officially credited for discovering the IOMobileFrameBuffer vulnerability that has come to be known as "Saffron" which he used in the popular and extremely user-friendly JailbreakMe 3.0. Apple details the exploit and the ability to gain system access using this exploit on their support page that outlines the changes in iOS 4.3.4.

Apple rarely ever even acknowledges the jailbreak scene. They refuse service on jailbroken devices and quietly combat the exploits that hackers use to create jailbreaks but it isn't often that they publicly acknowledge anyone specific in the scene.

It's good to see credit …

PDF Patcher 2 Released by Comex to patch JailbreakMe 3.0 PDF Exploit

pdf patch

Those of you who have been around since the 4.0.x days remember that after JailbreakMe 2.0 was released, Comex quickly released a pdf patch for the exploit that allows the jailbreak to work to prevent any malicious attempts at accessing your device. Again, Comex has released a patch for the exploit(which will likely be patched in an upcoming update from Apple). Search for "PDF Patcher 2" in Cydia to download it.

JailbreakMe 3.0 to Support only 4.3.3 at Launch – Support for other firmware added in the future

jbme30

@Comex still hasn't officially released the JailbreakMe 3.0 jailbreak that is set to jailbreak the iPad2. However, today he gave us an update that initially the jailbreak will only support 4.3.3 firmware which is strange since the leaked jailbreakme 3.0 files from the other day only support 4.3, but he has mentioned that the compatibility is due to the timeframe he is on now since he is rushing to get the jailbreak out before iOS 4.3.4 is released.

However, he tweeted a few moments later that eventually he will be adding support for 4.2.1, 4.3, 4.3.1 and 4.3.2 just not …

Unfinished JailbreakMe 3.0 Jailbreak has been Leaked

jbme

@Comex much anticipated JailbreakMe 3.0 jailbreak, which was being developed to jailbreak the iPad2, has now been leaked onto the internet. A Computer Science major, Ryan Lobbins, from Arizona was digging around on one of the websites Comex linked to earlier this week and discovered that he had been storing the not-even-finished saffron jailbreak files on this site. He downloaded the files and uploaded them to his own website and from there the files spread like wild fire. Comex has already announced that this jailbreak was not yet finished and is very buggy.

Unfortunately, this means that iOS 4.3.4 is …

JailbreakMe 3.0 iPad2 Jailbreak Draws Nearer

jailbreakme

Today, @comex updated his website with a long list of git commits that date back almost a full year, indicating another milestone in his ipad2 jailbreak progress. Previously, he had updated his website with a picture of a ski run labeled "PDF" which referred back to his JailbreakMe 2.0 exploit back in the early 4.0 days which would allow you to jailbreak directly from your device. comex has been working on this iPad2 jailbreak for quite a long time, if you would like to show your thanks head on over to Free My iPad.

It would seem as …

Redsn0w 0.9.6rc13 and Pwnage Tool update on its way for untethered 4.3.2 jailbreak

ios-4.3.2

*UPDATE* - April 18th - Redsn0w 0.9.6rc13 has been released to jailbreak iOS 4.3.2 and 4.2.7 untethered.

Shortly after announcing that iOS 4.3.2 had been released yesterday, @comex announced that during his primary review of the new firmware he didn't see that Apple had patched @i0n1c's untethered jailbreak exploit. Earlier this morning, i0n1c confirmed that the untether had not been patched and that he had his iPad1 running untethered on 4.3.2

Apple has been nice. I just verified that the untether vulnerability is not fixed in iOS 4.3.2 - my Ipad 1 is running untethered jailbroken

Of …

4.3.1 untethered jailbreak coming from i0n1c

untethered431

Earlier this month we showed you a video of a 4.3 untethered jailbreak demonstration that was being developed by i0n1c. Apparently, Apple did not patch the exploit in the 4.3.1 firmware because today i0n1c has announced that he has gotten 4.3.1 untethered

In the video you can see how I switch off the iPod, then restart it, show the version, show that it is tethered and has the multitasking gestures, i show that you can buy ringtones and then I show cydia and the ninja jump game from last time.

Because several people misunderstood me in the past:

Comex successfully jailbreaks the iPad2

iPad-2-Jailbroken-Comex

Yesterday we posted the information that the SHAtter exploit nor the Limera1n exploit worked on the new iPad2 that was released only 3 days ago. Today, only 3 days after the iPad2's release in the US, @comex has successfully jailbroken it.

@comex: would’ve had it yesterday if I didn’t have to spend 1.5 days looking for a replacement exploit (which came from a most unexpected place…)

@iphone_dev: Congrats to @comex for jailbreaking yet another brand new device (iPad2) while 2500 miles away from it!

We'll update this post as more information about the jailbreak becomes available. At this point …
