Jailbreak Apple TV 2G on iOS 6.x Now with Sn0wbreeze 2.9.8

For all of those hardcore Apple TV fans (including myself!) will be pleased to hear, Sn0wbreeze, the Windows based jailbreak tool has also been updated to include an untethered jailbreak for the Apple TV 2G.

Most of the software like XBMC, aTV Flash (black), Plex, etc. is not yet compatible with Apple TV 5.1 – 5.2 and the device constantly crashes when attempting to install additional software from nitoTV, so things are not ideal at this stage! Hopefully the programs developers will soon provide and update for their software to provide compatibility for the lastest software.

Pod2G Confirms More Device Compatibility for Upcoming iOS 5.0.1 Jailbreak

Earlier we posted that Pod2G, member of the Chronic-Dev Team had released a video confirming a new untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0/5.0.1.

Pod2G has obviously working hard to bring the upcoming jailbreak closer to a release. Over the past few days he has been posting on his blog with status updates of the progress he has been making. So far Pod2G has confirmed the follow devices will be included in the untethered jailbreak:

Apple Adds Resolution Setting for Apple TV 4.4

It looks like Apple has added another small addition in the recent release of the 4.4 software for the Apple TV 2G, a resolution setting.

This setting allows users to set the resolution of the Apple TV to the following new resolutions:

    Auto 720p HD - 60Hz 720p HD - 50Hz 1024 x 768 - 60Hz 1024 x 768 - 50Hz 800 x 600 - 60Hz 800 x 600 - 50Hz 480p - 60Hz 480p - 50Hz 640 x 480 - 60Hz 640 x 480 - 50Hz

How To Change Your Known_hosts File

Some people (including myself) have been having problems when ssh'ing into their iDevice. In my case, my Apple TV 2G.

I had update to iOS 4.2 for the Apple TV 2G earlier today, then decided I preferred having the use of Plex, NitoTV and other such applications so I downgraded back to iOS 4.1.

When ssh'ing back into the Apple TV I had the following error:

Groovy is soon to be Updated to Groovy 0.2

Ealier we posted that Groovy, a Grooveshark client for the Apple TV 2G had been released, we also released a tutorial on how to install it here.

Groovy has now been updated to version 0.2. The features in 0.2 are:

How To Remove Apple TV 2G Packages

This is a quick, simple tutorial on how to remove application from the Apple TV 2G, for example Plex or NitoTV.

Step 1. ssh into your Apple TV 2G. Open Terminal or a PC alternative.

Step 2. Connect to your Apple TV. Type the following (please replace the IP address of YOUR Apple TV, this can be found by going to Settings – General – Network on the Apple TV:

ssh root@YOURIPADDRESS

Step 3. Then enter your password – The default password is “alpine”.
