Apple is currently signing old firmware read ASAP if you are stuck on 4.3.5

ipsw

Over the past few minutes, the web and twitter have been buzzing with news that Apple has started signing 4.1 firmware and possibly even 4.2.1 firmware for some devices. This is amazing news for those who are currently stuck on 4.3.5 and up until now had thought that they would be stuck there until iOS5 came out.

Those of you who are stuck on 4.3.5 open up TinyUmbrella ASAP and try saving your SHSH keys from Apples server. So far there are varying opinions on what firmware is being signed and for which devices. Initially the report was that it …

JailbreakMe 3.0 to Support only 4.3.3 at Launch – Support for other firmware added in the future

jbme30

@Comex still hasn’t officially released the JailbreakMe 3.0 jailbreak that is set to jailbreak the iPad2. However, today he gave us an update that initially the jailbreak will only support 4.3.3 firmware which is strange since the leaked jailbreakme 3.0 files from the other day only support 4.3, but he has mentioned that the compatibility is due to the timeframe he is on now since he is rushing to get the jailbreak out before iOS 4.3.4 is released.

However, he tweeted a few moments later that eventually he will be adding support for 4.2.1, 4.3, 4.3.1 and 4.3.2 just not …

A reminder to save your 4.2.1 SHSH blobs while you still can

shsh

UPDATE: It has been brought to our attention that Apple is no longer signing 4.2.1, if you didn’t save your SHSH for 4.2.1 by now, you will never be able to. If you are on 4.3 and looking to downgrade, you will unfortunately have to wait until a new jailbreak tool for 4.3 is released.

As you know, 4.3 firmware was released to the public this week. Historically, Apple has had a buffer where they continue to sign the previous firmware(4.2.1 in this case) for a few days after the release of the new firmware. After they stop signing …

How to re-enable iBooks on a jailbroken iDevice using Comex’ Honeypot

ibookshoneypot

News has been spreading lately that Apple has disabled iBooks on jailbroken iDevices. In actuality, this has been a feature that they implemented a long time ago but for some reason people are just noticing it now. Apple has coded into iBooks a script that tries to run unsigned code on your device. If the code runs, it recognizes that your device is jailbroken and displays the error message below and prevents you from using the app:

Luckily Comex has already created a fix for this issue called Honeypot which re-enables the iBooks application on jailbroken iDevices. Click here to

MuscleNerd clears the air on some GP RC5 issues

So after I got done creating the Greenpois0n RC5 tutorial, it was apparent that there were some issues with the process(which is to be expected this soon after the release). First of all, many people have been wondering if they can just use GreenPois0n over the top of a tethered 4.2.1 jailbreak so they don’t have to restore. @MuscleNerd has confirmed that it is indeed safe to run GreenPois0n over the top of a tethered jailbreak to untether it. However, please do not use the “Loader” app afterwards as this will overwrite Cydia. You can just delete that …

Pod2g has found another untethered jailbreak vulnerability

Still no news on a definite release date for an untethered jailbreak but progress is still continuing steadily. Pod2g has announced that he has discovered another vulnerability for an untethered jailbreak. Currently there are a few different untethered jailbreaks in the works, one from Comex and one from Chronic Dev. There has been a lot of speculation that we won’t see either one released until 4.3 becomes public but only time will tell.

Greenpois0n RC5 4.2.1 untethered jailbreak for Windows teaser [Video]

There is still ETA for when Greepois0n RC5 will be released which will finally allow Windows users to have an untethered jailbreak on 4.2.1 Of course those of you who are Mac users, you can already have an untethered jailbreak using Redsn0w 0.9.7 Although there is still no release date, the release is definitely near. According to @pod2G of the Chronic Dev team, they are just ironing out one small bug that causes the wi-fi icon not to show up.

Until then, they have uploaded a teaser video to YouTube which shows their untethered jailbreak in action, funny choice …

Redsn0w 0.9.7b5 released fixes Bluetooth issues on untethered 4.2.1 jailbreak

The iPhone Dev-Team has updated RedSn0w to fix Bluetooth issues with the untethered ‘backup plan’ jailbreak.

Mac OSX

The fifth beta is now available (testers ONLY please!). Bluetooth is now working (and any sandbox-related issues should be resolved too). Please do not pirate the 4.2b3 IPSW! Only those enrolled in the iPhone Developer program have legitimate access to that IPSW.

There is actually a Windows version of beta5, but it’s excruciatingly slow compared to the Mac version because it’s forced to use files on your hard drive instead of RAM while it’s processing the very large IPSW images. It …
