Semi-Restore tutorial: How to wipe your iDevice without doing a full restore (iOS 5.0-6.1.2)

Last month we brought you news that there was a new iOS restore tool in the works called Semi-Restore. Semi-Restore is a next-to last resort for iOS issues. If you've done everything you can think of to fix your sluggish firmware to no avail and you have a device which doesn't have SHSH blobs for a jailbreakable firmware or you simply have a device that cannot be downgraded, Semi-Restore will wipe your iOS installation clean without actually doing a full restore.

Semi-Restore is available now as a Windows and OSX GUI tool, there is a Linux version in development and …

Redsn0w 0.9.11 to include A5 and A5X Downgrading capabilities

When iOS 5.1.1 was released, @musclenerd tweeted that there was an SHSH downgrade method for A5+ devices that Apple knew about but had not patched in 5.1.1. Today, some great news was released by musclenerd, an upcoming Redsn0w release will include the ability to downgrade iPhone4S, iPad2 and iPad3 from 5.1.1 to 5.1 or 5.0.1 provided you had saved your SHSH blobs while Apple was still signing those firmwares.

Redsn0w 0.9.11 is still in beta, but it shouldn't be long before we see a public release and A5+ users who were forced to, or "accidentally," updated their devices …

The New iPad has already been jailbroken

Less than 24 hours since the New iPad began rolling out, and already, jailbreak developer @MuscleNerd has jailbroken his. Yesterday, we showed you pictures indicating that i0n1c had discovered a 5.1 jailbreak exploit when he posted pictures of his jailbroken iPad2 running on 5.1. Now, MuscleNerd has released images of his jailbroken iPad3 running on the AT&T 4G network.

Below are the pictures from MuscleNerd's iPad3 jailbreak. There is still a lot of work to do and because of that, there is no ETA on when this jailbreak will be released. At this point, we can't help but …

Stefan (i0n1c) Esser discovers iOS 5.1 Jailbreak exploit and successfully jailbreaks iPad2 on 5.1

Stefan (ion1c) Esser, the now infamous German hacker who brought us the untethered jailbreak exploit for a majority of the iOS4 firmware revisions has done it again. As you already know, A4 devices have already been able to be jailbroken on 5.1 tethered, since they are susceptible to the limera1n bootrom exploit which can never be patched. However, pod2g and the others have been hard at work trying to locate vulnerabilities in the 5.1 firmware itself so that jailbreaks can extend to A5 devices(iPad2 and iPhone4S) and also to the upcoming A5X device, the New iPad.

Earlier today, …

Apple not ready to release A6 processor could the A5X take its place?

For some time now there have been rumors floating around of the Apple A6 processor to be released with the iPhone 5 and the iPad 3. Newly revealed information and leaked images now suggest that the A6 Chip is not ready to ship. Could this be due to compatibility issues? Well, I don't know. The newest information available is that there is going to be an Apple A5x Processor.

This is not completely impossible, we see these kinds of incremental hardware updates all the time with apple. When the iPhone 3G was released, soon after, rumors of the iPhone 4 …
