We have had reports from viewers that they have recently had problems when attempting to install Plex on the Apple TV. The client plugin installation was working for some time and any viewers have shared their success stories on the easy installation process due to our video tutorial released here earlier.
We have had reports that there have been errors when trying to complete the last steps of the installation process.
Viewers are receiving this error:
Package plex-client-plugin is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has …

This is a really simple tutorial on how to install Plex onto your Apple TV 2G. See the video tutorial below:
The popular media center client for Mac OS X and iOS devices has been successfully ported to the new Apple TV 2G ! So for those of you who have a Plex server running in your home, you can now “technically” stream media from Plex server on to your jailbroken 2nd-generation Apple TV. This has been confirmed working with 720p MKV files, GREAT NEWS!
Installation instructions, as posted on the Plex Forums are …
This is a tutorial on how to install NitoTV (the first ever application for the Apple TV 2G) on your already jailbroken Apple TV 2G.
Step 1. Please plug your Apple TV into your TV and turn it on, please also ensure that it is connected to your network. This can ether be done using the built in WIFI or ethernet connection.
Step 2. We now need to find your Apple TV’s IP address. On your Apple …
Below are various different custom firmware files that were created using Pwnage Tool 4.1 download these if you are weary of creating your own. Your device MUST be in pwned-DFU mode for these firmware files to restore properly(read below). Make sure you read the description of each firmware CAREFULLY so that you know what you are installing.
*IMPORTANT* In order to restore these custom firmware files, you must use Pwnage Tool(Mac) to enter DFU mode. If you have Windows, you can now use Redsn0w 0.9.6b2 to enter pwned-dfu mode which will allow you to install the custom firmware …
@MuscleNerd has tweeted a nice little “nerd alert”, which showcases a demo video of the iPad getting a custom firmware restore using PwnageTool.
Basically, PwnageTool uses geohot’s limera1n exploit to convince iTunes to restore a custom firmware. In fact, in this video demo, MuscleNerd shows that you can even restore an iPad to pre-JB 3.2.2 from PwnageTool.
Stay tuned, as PwnageTool is set to release this Sunday. Once again, a “sunday funday”! If MuscleNerd posts a video for the AppleTV device, I’ll add it to this post.…
Chronic Dev Team’s long anticipated jailbreak is finally here using the limera1n exploit.
Greenpois0n only works on firmware 4.1, so (only if you have an iPhone 4!) if you are on a lower firmware make sure you use TinyUmbrella to preserve your baseband.
Mac version to be released soon!
Initially, this will be a Windows-only release. This is due to some technical complications that we soon hope to correct. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Thanks to geohot for the bootrom USB …
We announced previously that Greenpois0n could jailbreak the Apple TV 2G. When Limera1n was first announced and released we didn’t think it would support the Apple TV 2G, well we can now confirm that it does!
On Limera1n’s official website, hacker geohot writes: “AppleTV is technically supported, but there’s no apps yet”. So yes, while you can jailbreak it, i.e. have administrator access, there really …
The Greenpois0n jailbreak has been a very confussing and sometimes complicated thing for many people to understand so I thought I would again, bring some more clarification. This time regarding a jailbreak for iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 3G.
The SHAtter based GreenPois0n tool is all set to arrive on October 10. But unfortunately, as we mentioned here, it will only jailbreak the fourth-generation devices. These are: The iPhone 4, iPad, iPod touch 4G and the Apple TV 2G. This limitation is because the exploit SHAtter uses is only compatible with the A4 chip…
If you own an iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G, and/or iPad, then this jailbreak tool will work with your device! This is because SHAtter is used to exploit Apple’s A4 chip. If you have an iPod touch 2G (including MC models, though your jailbreak will be tethered) or an iPhone 3G, please use redsn0w to jailbreak your device (scroll down to the bottom of the post to find download links).
If you have an iPhone …
Members of Chronic Dev Team have confirmed that SHAtter based GreenPois0n jailbreak for all iOS based devices will be released on 10th October 2010 at 10:10:10AM GMT. The team have announced that the tool has progressed to the point where they are not expected anymore road blocks.
I guess sunday will be a funday after all
10/10/10 10:10:10AM GMT
Things have progressed to the point where we don’t expect anymore roadblocks. ETA for greenpois0n is 10/10/10 at 10:10:10AM
For those that are unaware, GreenPois0n uses a low-level bootrom exploit which will pwn all current iOS devices for life. Apple wont …
As this has only just be announced we still do not have a lot of information. There are also a few other members within the community working on jailbreaking the Apple TV. Chromic Dev Team member willstraf tweeted earlier today about the structure of the Apple TV OS.
As the Apply TV has only been released a few days ago this is still a very new area. We will keep you updated as soon as any more information …
