ipsw

If you've done everything you can think of to fix your sluggish firmware to no avail and you have a device which doesn't have SHSH blobs for a jailbreakable firmware or you simply have a device that cannot be downgraded, Semi-Restore will wipe your iOS installation clean without actually doing a full restore.

Semi-Restore is available now as a Windows and OSX GUI tool, there is a Linux version in development and …

iOS 6.1.3 released publicly and the death of the evasi0n jailbreak

rip

Now that iOS 6.1.3 has been released to the public, the days of the evasi0n jailbreak are over. After 6 weeks and 2 successive incremental updates, Apple has finally patched the exploits used in the evasi0n jailbreak. For those with iPhone4 or lower with your SHSH blobs saved, you have nothing to worry about. However for users with an A5 or higher processor, there is no way to downgrade back to 6.1.2 now that 6.1.3 is out and the signing window has closed.

Because of this, it is extremely important that you are cautious if you wish to remain jailbroken. …

Gridlock 2.0 released for iOS6 compatibility

gridlockth

Today, one of the last tweaks I have been waiting to use on my iPhone 5, Gridlock 2.0, was released to add compatibility for iOS 6. This tweak is essential for any devoted themer. The tweak allows you to position your app/folder icons anywhere on your Springboard without the rest of the icons shifting around. This tweak works out great for themes with widgets or custom icon layouts.

Unfortunately, the developer @chpwn has implemented an upgrade fee for those who had already purchased the original Gridlock. For new users, the tweak will cost $4.99, for those who are …

The Obama Administration agrees, cellphone unlocking should be legal

unlock

Back in October of 2012, the Librarian of Congress decided to remove cellphone unlocking from the exemptions of the DMCA. This sparked much outrage and discussion in the cellphone community prompting a petition to be started on the White House website. The stipulation of the petition was that it needed to reach over 100,000 signatures in a 30-day period which would prompt the White House to respond directly to the petition.

Amazingly, the petition garnered well over the necessary amount, 114,000+ and recently we got our response. The response is a good one for people who believe in consumer choice …

Winterboard 0.9.3910 released to fix notification overlap UISound and Theme Optimization

winterboard

Over the past few days, @saurik has released two updates to the popular iPhone theming application, Winterboard. Winterboard 0.9.3909 fixes an issue that I know many of our users were asking about which is notification overlap when using HTML lockscreens. Before this update, if you had a lockscreen which uses HTML, notifications would be hidden beneath the lockscreen preventing you from seeing them pop up when your phone is locked. This inclueds BiteSMS quick reply notifications. The 0.9.3909 update also fixes an issue with UISound themes to customize your devices sounds.

Today, Winterboard 0.9.3910 was released to address issues …

jailbreak

A few minutes ago, we informed you that iOS 6.1.1 has been released for the iPhone4S only. This update was released to solve issues certain users were having with 3G connectivity. The Evad3rs have now released Evasi0n 1.3 which has been updated to support the iOS 6.1.1 firmware. This update will also work for those who are running iOS 6.1.1 tethered jailbreaks on devices other than the 4S. If you are on a tethered jailbreak of a beta 6.1.1 firmware, simply install the updated Evasi0n 6.0-6.1 untether package in Cydia to untether the jailbreak.

Remember that if you plan on …

iOS 6.1.1 released for iPhone4S still contains Evasi0n exploit!

evasi0n

Today, Apple pushed out the iOS 6.1.1 update for the iPhone4S only. This update is supposed to fix issues with 3G for certain users. It has been confirmed that the Evasi0n untether exploit still exists in the 6.1.1 firmware for the 4S, but it is unclear whether the final release of 6.1.1 for other devices will be the same case.

PlanetBeing announced that a new version of Evasi0n will be released shortly that can detect 6.1.1 devices so that 4S users can update and jailbreak. Stay tuned to find out if the rest of the devices will be susceptible!…

unlock

Ultrasn0w 1.2.8 has just been released for compatibility with iPhone 3Gs and iPhone 4 running iOS 6.1. Once again, this update only adds 6.1 compatibility, it does not add compatibility for any of the newer baseband revisions. If you have an iPhone 4, this will only work if you have the 01.59.00 baseband. If you have an iPhone 3Gs, it will work on any of these basebands: 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01, 05.13.04 and 06.15.00. If you have a 3Gs that has a newer baseband, you can install the 06.15.00 iPad baseband and then downgrade from 06.15.00 to 05.13.04 using Redsn0w.

iPhone 5 ScreenExtender tweak forces all apps to use full screen

i5

With the iPhone 5 having a larger screen size than it's predecessors, there are still plenty of apps out there which have not been updated to accomodate the larger size of the screen. A new iPhone 5 ScreenExtender tweak has been released to solve just that issue. All you have to do is download the free app from Cydia and it will force any of your older apps to fill the screen, even if they were not natively designed to do so. Once your device has rebooted, simply go into the Settings app and scroll down to ScreenExtender. Enable it …

NowNow uses activator gestures to invoke Google Now – Siri alternative

gnow

A friend of mine jailbroke his iPhone 4 for the first time yesterday. Being the curious person he is, he started watching YouTube videos about jailbreak tweaks to see what he wanted to install. Not surprisingly, he came across a video detailing a Siri port. He asked me if it would work, and having heard plenty of horror stories about instability and security issues, I advised him to steer clear of any Siri ports. Instead, I started looking for Siri alternatives for him and came across NowNow. NowNow is a very simple jailbreak tweak that lets you assign an Activator …

Evasi0n 1-click jailbreak is great, but how does it work!?

jailbreak

I first entered the jailbreak world back in 2010 when I purchased an iPhone3Gs with 3.1.2. At that time, jailbreaking had already been simplified quite a bit and was easy as cake compared to a 74-step jailbreak that came about in the early years of iOS. Nowadays, jailbreakers are spoiled with easy-to-use single click jailbreaks, where all of the difficult commands and exploits are neatly compiled into scripts that run in the background.

Because of this, it is easy to forget just how much work actually goes into these jailbreaks. Peter Morgan, Ryan Smith, Braden Thomas, and Josh Thomas from …
