What should I do to prepare for the jailbreak?

There are a few basic steps that people should be aware before performing any jailbreak. Most important among these, is to back up your data. Restoring a firmware and performing a jailbreak is a great way to lose your contacts, photos, SMS, etc. Backing up the device before restoring your firmware is always a great idea. Also, it is best to do a fresh restore to 6.1 before performing the jailbreak, this ensures that there are not any leftover settings or content.

Aside from the usual suggestions before jailbreaking, several devs have also been saying that you should NOT use the OTA to your device to iOS 6.1, this is because OTA updates generate a different SHSH key than if you had restored through iTunes.
