Untethered Jailbreak iPhone 4S and iPad 2 on iOS 5.0.1 Using Absinthe
UPDATE: We now have a video tutorial available to step you through the process. For the video tutorial, click here.
Well, after a long wait for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 users, today is your luck day! An untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0 and 5.0.1 has been released! A new jailbreak application named Absinthe which was created by the Chronic Dev Team, and supported by the joint efforts of Pod2g and the iPhone Dev Team has just been released.
Absinthe supports the following devices and firmwares:
- iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0, 5.0.1 (9A405 and 9A406)
- iPad 2 Wifi/GSM/CDMA running iOS 5.0.1
Pod2G and other members of the Chronic Dev and iPhone Dev team's have put a huge amount of effort in to get the tool finished available for all users, in saying that, as always there is always the possibility of unforeseen bugs in the process. We urge you to complete a backup of your iDevice before completing the process. Reports are at this stage that the jailbreak can delete all of the photos from your camera roll.
For all iPhone 4S users who are looking to unlock their iPhone in the future, again we urge you to stay at iOS 5 (do not update to iOS 5.0.1). When/if a software unlock is released in the future from the jailbreak community, it is most likely it will be compatible with iOS 5.0 but not 5.0.1.
Absinthe can be downloaded from the following link:
