ifaith

Tonight, @ih8sn0w has released a new version of his SHSH dumping tool, iFaith 1.4.1. This new update fixes some minor issues regarding iOS and DFU mode detection as well as an issue with the 8GB iPhone4 and the iPhone 3Gs. No new compatibility or functionality in this release. iPhone-Dev Team website and repo down for infrastructure update

iphonedev

Today, @MuscleNerd announced that the iPhone-Dev Team blog and the Ultrasn0w repo are both down due to an infrastructure update. Unfortunately, this has also pushed back the release of Ultrasn0w 1.2.5 which will add unlock support for users on iOS 5.0.1 without using the Ultrasn0w fix that we posted a while back. Please stay tuned for more updates!

More progress made on Untethered iPhone4S jailbreak

4s

Earlier today, we reported that @pod2g had run into issues with the iPhone4S untethered jailbreak he is working on. He had been having issues with the processor cache this weekend but he has found a workaround by doing the untether in a single thread. Apparently, even @saurik has been chipping in information about the launchd boot process for the jailbreak which is usually not something he is part of.

This is in no way an indication of a release date, but it is yet another step in the right direction! Lots of people are asking when the jailbreak …

AT&T/T-Mobile merger bites the dust – AT&T to pay hefty accounting charge

merger

It seems like forever ago that we began hearing about the AT&T/T-Mobile merger. After months of failed negotiations, AT&T has now officially backed out of the deal. AT&T blames the news on the FCC and the US Department of Justice. Already, rumors of other companies wanting to cozy up with T-Mobile have begun to fly including an unlikely partnership between Dish Network and T-Mobile. This is bad news for T-Mobile users who were looking forward to finally being able to purchase an iPhone and use it to it’s full capabilities on the T-Mobile network, however I think that it is …

iPhone 4S Untethered Jailbreak Status Update

4s

Those keeping up with pod2g’s iOS blog may have noticed a new post this morning updating us on the status of the iPhone 4S untethered jailbreak. According to his latest post, he has been making some great progress and is very close but he is having an issue with the processor cache. No update on whether or not he has succeeded with the iPad2 or not. He says he will post more information tomorrow.

Hello.

Here are the news of the 4S week-end.

The untether fails right now because I’m having processor cache issues.

I’m close, but I can’t …

Now that Redsn0w 0.9.9b9d has been released, there is no longer a need for a 5.0 IPSW in order to jailbreak or tethered boot your device. This is great news for those who carry the files around with them in case they need to reboot tethered away from home. Now all you need is Redsn0w and an internet connection, no need for the bulky IPSW file! Redsn0w 0.9.9b9 also adds a bunch of other features but we will stick to jailbreaking for this tutorial.

Ultrasn0w 1.2.5 adding 5.0.1 unlock support to be released later today

ultrasn0w

Just a bit ago, @MuscleNerd announced the released of Redsn0w 0.9.9b9 which adds 5.0.1 native compatibility as well as a bunch of new features. One footnote you may have missed is that later today(Monday) Ultrasn0w 1.2.5 will be released to add support for iOS 5.0.1. Until now you have had to use the Ultrasn0w 5.0.1 fix in order to unlock on that firmware, with this update of Ultrasn0w you will no longer need to do that.

To be clear, this does NOT add support for any new basebands, only compatibility with the 5.0.1 firmware for basebands which have already …

The jailbreak community is still without an untethered jailbreak or an A5 compatible jailbreak and the world feels empty. Luckily for us, MuscleNerd has just announced a new version of Redsn0w 0.9.9b9. This update not only adds the long awaited native 5.0.1 support(no more need for specifying 5.0 IPSW) but also a bunch of new features, including a TinyCFW-like feature. You can check out our Redsn0w 0.9.9b9 jailbreak tutorial if you want some insight on how to use it.

Vold Miracle SIM new SIM interposer to be used for unlocking iPhone4 on 04.11.08

voldmiracle

It’s no surprise now that updating to a factory iOS5 firmware will update your baseband to 04.11.08 which is not currently unlockable either by Ultrasn0w or by Gevey SIM. A new SIM interposer hack is being developed by a company called Vold. This new Vold Miracle SIM is said to be able to unlock the 04.11.08 baseband on iPhone4 using this new hardware method.

So far, the SIM has not been released to the public but many websites point at a possible end-of-December release.

Unfortunately, since this is new hardware, the prices are reminiscent of the Gevey SIM when it …

TinyCFW Windows Fix Maximum Heap Size Error

TinyCFW

For those using yesterday’s TinyCFW release to downgrade iPad2 to 4.3.3 and are running into issues with the executable there is a fix you can try below. For me I got the error “ jvm could not start-the maximum heap size (-Xms) might be too large or a antivirus is blocking the execution.” Since i didn’t have a firewall or anti-virus running I knew that wasn’t the problem. Below you can find the fix I used:

Start – Control Panel – System – Advanced system settings

Advanced (tab) and click on “Environment Variables”

Under “User variables..” click on “New”

Then …

TinyCFW Alpha Released Build a Custom CFW for iPhone4 and iPad2 Downgrade iPad2 to 4.3.3 with SHSH

TinyCFW

*UPDATE* Windows users, if you are having issues check out our TinyCFW fix.

Today, @notcom the creator of the popular iOS SHSH saving tool, TinyUmbrella has released a new application called TinyCFW. This tool is something that he coded for his friend for restoring 4.3.3 on his iPad2. Right now if you try to do this with the tools available you would get stuck in a 1015 loop because iTunes would cause a baseband panic when it tried downgrading your baseband. The nice thing about this tool is that it will allow users to Downgrade

pod2g

As we anxiously await the untethered iOS5 jailbreak from @pod2g some of us are still on 5.0 waiting for confirmation that he can get the jailbreak ported to 5.0.1 before we update. Tonight, it has been confirmed. The jailbreak WILL work on 5.0.1 so if you have been waiting to update, you can ahead and do so now
