How to jailbreak iOS5 using Redsn0w 0.9.9b8

Now that Redsn0w 0.9.9b5 has been released for users I figured I would create a on how to using it. This tutorial will walk you through jailbreaking your on iOS5. This is a jailbreak meaning each time you reboot the device you will have to boot with so don't reboot when you are away from your computer.

Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 - OSX
Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 - WIN

Step 1: Restore to iOS5 using iTunes(you can update if you want but a fresh restore is recommended).

Step 2: Download and open Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 above and open it.

Step 3: Now start Redsn0w, and click on the "Jailbreak" button

Step 4: At this time you may connect your phone and put your device into DFU mode if you know how to. Otherwise just connect your device and hit next and Redsn0w will walk you through how to do it.

Step 5: If you are already in DFU mode, Redsn0w should just skip the instructions portion once you hit next. If not, follow the onscreen instructions for putting your device into DFU mode.

Step 6: Redsn0w should detect your device in DFU mode and begin downloading the necessary firmware files for jailbreaking and then it will automatically begin jailbreaking using the limera1n exploit.

Step 7: On the options screen check ONLY the box that says "Install Cydia" and then click next again. Redsn0w will now install cydia on your iPhone. Once it is done and reboots you are not quite done yet. You must now boot tethered.

Step 8: In Redsn0w go back to the main screen and select the "Extras" tab.

Step 9: Now select the "Just boot" option

Step 10: Once again put your device into DFU mode and click next to boot tethered. Once the phone reboots you will be able to use Cydia just like an untethered jailbreak. Remember that you have to repeat Step 9 EVERY time you reboot your phone.

That’s it! You should now have a jailbroken iPhone on iOS5!
