ChevronWP7 Labs to allow Microsoft approved Windows Phone 7 Jailbreaking!

Typically we like to stay away from posting news regarding other devices or companies since we have a very specific audience we cater to, but this news is just too good to not report on. Anyone who has followed Windows Phone jailbreaking in the past knows that very shortly after the Windows Phone was released, a jailbreaking tool was released called ChevronWP7. Shortly after it's release however, the people at ChevronWP7 Labs announced that they would discontinue the program at the request of Microsoft.

Little did we know that Microsoft was actually planning on working with the ChevronWP7 Labs team on releasing a Micrsoft approved jailbreak. Soon, they will be releasing a new version of ChevronWP7 which will allow users and developers to run homebrew games and apps on their Windows Phones. This sort of cooperation from major corporations with the jailbreak community is unprecedented and hopefully Sony and Apple will learn a thing or two from Microsoft about how to deal with the jailbreaking community.

Unfortunately, according to the blog post on their website, ChevronWP7 will now be a paid service that you will have to subscribe for via PayPal. It is not yet known what the exact price will be. For more information and to stay up to date with the latest news check out our Windows Phone Jailbreaking forum. Here is what they had to say:

It’s been a while since we posted something. Between fixing state machines and avoiding the paparazzi, we have been busy tinkering with Microsoft behind the scenes.

As you may remember, one of our goals was to make Windows Phone development more accessible. Plans have recently solidified and we can now reveal a solution we’ve been working on.

As announced on the Windows Phone Dev Podcast, we will soon be launching an approved Windows Phone unlocking service as part of ChevronWP7 Labs. This will be available to developers across all skill levels and all regions.

The service will require a small fee — currently via PayPal — to offset costs but we assure you it will be more affordable than the App Hub. Those who wish to write and immediately publish apps are recommended to sign up to the App Hub instead.

We’re excited to be making this service available to users with the support of the Windows Phone team.

Follow us on @ChevronWP7 to know the moment we launch.
