4.3.3/4.2.8 firmware for your device

Step 1: Restore or update(we recommend clean restore) your firmware to 4.3.3(GSM) or 4.2.8(CDMA) you can use the firmware file you downloaded by clicking shift+restore instead of downloading it from the Apple server.

Step 2: Start Redsn0w and point it to the 4.3.3/4.2.8 firmware you downloaded

Step 3: After you've selected the firmware and Redsn0w says "firmware verified" click next and you will see a progress bar as Redsn0w prepares the firmware with the jailbreak data. If successful you will be brought to the options screen where you should select "Install Cydia" and "Allow boot animation" if you want to enable custom bootlogos.

Step 4: After you've checked the boxes "Install Cydia" and "Allow boot animation" click next which will bring you to a screen that will prepare you to enter DFU mode. Please power off your device and connect it(if not already) at this time.

Step 5: At this time, Redsn0w will walk you through the DFU mode process if you don't know how to do it already. If you are having issues with timing, you might want to check out our DFU mode video tutorial which will help you get the timing down.

Step 6: Congratulations you've made it to the end! As soon as Redsn0w detects your device in DFU mode you can just sit back and relax while it does it's thing! As soon as it is complete, you will be jailbroken and untethered on 4.3.3/4.2.8! If you have any feedback or questions please feel free to post below. Thanks!

How to fix the stuck at uploading ramdisk issue

Some of our users have reported an issue with Redsn0w that it will get stuck during the "uploading ramdisk" portion of the process. The fix for this is very simple. Go to where Redsn0w is stored and right-click it and select "properties" under the compatibility tab change the compatibility mode to "Windows XP Service Pack 2" and check the box that says "run as administrator." After you have done those 2 things hit apply and then re-open Redsn0w and try the jailbreak process again. It should go through without a hitch!

Make certain you let iTunes upgrade you to 4.3.3 if you are not already. I was on 4.2.something and while I kept an eye on the instructions I thought I had bricked my 3GS. Thankfully I was capable to restore in iTunes

Yep, step 1 in jailbreaking is always to restore or upgrade to the firmware you are trying to jailbreak unless you are using a method that creates a custom firmware to restore. Glad you got it sorted. And just to ease your mind, it’s not possible to brick an iDevice :P

If i do these steps and then restore from my backup. Will I have my contacts and stuff again with cydia installed?

    thx!

      Yes you will

Does it take a really long time to Redsnow to do the process?
I don’t know if it’s stuck or if it’s really slow and just have to wait longer.
    Thanks for your response!

Are you on an official carrier or are you unlocking?

      • genio

I am encountering the same problem. This is the first time I am running this kind of thing (redsn0w) on my iphone 3GS since I purchased.
I have updated my phone to 4.3.3 and ran redsn0w. I need to use other Carrier Sim in my iphone 3GS. what is the solutions to do so?

  • Chris

the jailbreak was successful however i have commands on my screen and im not sure if its just slow or if my ipod has frozen.

    does anyone know?

    • http://iphoneblogr.com JaeM1llz

If the commands are still on your screen then the jailbreak wasn’t successful. If the jailbreak is successful the phone will reboot and you will see Cydia on your dashboard. Use our JailbreakMe 3.0 Tutorial it is much easier then any other jailbreak available today!

I was able to downgrade my 3gs 4.2.1, 6.15 BB to 4.1 then upgrade to 4.3.3 but after the rejail an unlock i still hav to boot tethered, what could be the issue?

    • http://iphoneblogr.com JaeM1llz

4.3.3 is an untethered jailbreak, are you sure you aren’t on 4.3.5?

  • Kevin

Hi! Wanna ask.. if my firmware is 4.1 … can i use 4.2.1 to jailbreak my i touch?

    • http://iphoneblogr.com JaeM1llz

If your firmware is 4.1 then you need to use a 4.1 jailbreak method. A 4.2.1 jailbreak will not work on 4.1 firmware.

Will this JB procedure work with 4.3.0 or only with 4.3.3??

PLEEEAASSSEEE can somebody help me!!! i have a new iphone 3gs, on ios 5.0.1 with 5.16.05 bb, i have successfully jailbroken it and upgraded to ipad bb but when i switch on, cydia is there and ultrasn0w too, but the baseband is still the same!!!! why doesn’t it recognize it!!!! have had nightmare trying to get the phone unlocked for a UK sim! please help! thanks!

  • Sleeps41

Hi, just used rs 0.9.6rc19 on my iphone 3g 4.2.1 with 05.15.04, and now it is jailbroken with the untethered option, but stuck on how to unlock it from this point. I am trying to use tmobile as my carrier. Prior to doing this jailbreak my phone was unhacked and never jailbroken. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what action to take from this point? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    • http://iphoneblogr.com JaeM1llz

05.15.04 is not unlockable. You must update to the iPad baseband 06.15.00 if you wish to unlock.

      • Sleeps41

Thanks, I tried using fuzzyband and found out i have 05.09 as my bootloader, so i can’t downgrade, sucks. I figured my only option is the iPad baseband mod. How does that work with itunes? Would I have to do more to my iphone in order for itunes to recognize it? From my understanding it will recognize my phone as an ipad, is this correct?

        • http://iphoneblogr.com JaeM1llz

That is incorrect, the iPad baseband won’t change anything in terms of how iTunes works with your device, the only thing is that you may lose your GPS capabilities and whenever you restore from now on you will have to restore a custom firmware(for baseband preservation)

          • Sleeps41

Ok, that is a good thing, now a few questions if you don’t mind helping out. Which redsn0w version would you recommend? I used rs 0.9.6rc19 because it was the only one I found that would work. My understanding is that if i use a previous rs version, i can update to rs 0.9.6rc19 right after in order to have untethered booting. Is this correct? Lastly, after I update to the ipad base-band, is there anything else I need to do to have itunes recognize my phone? I also understand that i need to create a custom file in case i need to do a restore. I am also aware of the consequences I have to face once i do the ipad upgrade, sucks but oh well, price we have to pay to have unlock and be able to use tmobile. Thanks again in advance.

  • Sleeps41

Update – Ok, so I went ahead and rejailbroke my 3g with 0.9.6rc16, but only added Cydia for now. Before I add the ipad baseband, i’m trying to figure out how to make a custom firmware to preserve my unlocked baseband, or do i do this after adding the ipad baseband, either way, how do i create one in case i have to reset or restore my iphone? Thanks again.

    • Sleeps41

After doing plenty of research, I decided that I don’t want to go with the ipad baseband. Don’t want to be locked into it with no fix, so now i’ll wait to see if by some miricle an unlock becomes availble for my baseband and bootloader. :(
