How to do an untethered 4.2.8 or 4.3.3 jailbreak with Sn0wbreeze 2.7.3 [Tutorial]

    @ih8sn0w has released a new version of his custom firmware tool Sn0wbreeze 2.7.3 for performing an untethered jailbreak on the latest iOS firmware 4.3.3 and 4.2.8 for Verizon CDMA iPhone4 users. The tutorial below will create a custom firmware for you to restore in Windows.

    DOWNLOAD:
    Sn0wbreeze 2.7.3 - Win
    iOS 4.3.3/4.2.8 Firmware

    Step 1: Open sn0wbreeze and click the blue arrow. At this screen you will select the 4.3.3 or 4.2.8 firmware file you downloaded. You can either drag and drop the IPSW onto the box in sn0wbreeze or you can browse for the file.

    Step 2: Once you have selected and verified your firmware file in Sn0wbreeze, you will see a green checkmark like the one below. Hit the blue next arrow to proceed to the next step.

    Step 3: On the next screen you will select which mode you want to use. For this tutorial we will be using "Expert" mode:

    Step 4: On the options screen you can enable any of the features you want, if you don't know what they mean just leave them as default and then click "Build IPSW" and hit next. *IMPORTANT* If you have an unofficial carrier make sure you check the option that says "Activate the iPhone" you need to do this if you have an unofficial SIM or you won't be able to access your phone.

    Step 5: While the firmware is being built, you can either play the Pac-Man game that ih8sn0w has built into sn0wbreeze or you can just sit back and wait until it is finished compiling and you see the screen below.

    Step 6: You must now enter Pwned DFU mode in order to restore the custom firmware that was built. Follow the onscreen instructions or take a look at our DFU mode video tutorial if you are having issues.

    Step 7: Now that you are in Pwned DFU mode and you have created your custom firmware with sn0wbreeze, all that's left to do is to do a shift+restore in iTunes and point it to the firmware you created with sn0wbreeze which should be on your desktop. Make sure you restore the CUSTOM firmware and not the factory firmware.

    Error 1600 or 1013 error using sn0wbreeze 2.7?

    If you get error 1600 or 1013 during your restore of your sn0wbreeze 2.6.1 firmware, this means one of two things. Either you aren't in Pwned-DFU mode or you are blocking Apple's verification servers in your hosts file. To fix the latter of these issues go to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc and edit the HOSTS file with notepad. You have to either remove or comment out the line referring to gs.apple.com as seen below:

    To comment out the line instead of deleting it just put a "#" in front of it. After you've done this, save the hosts file and then shift+restore your custom firmware.

    If the error is being caused by your device not being in Pwned-DFU mode, you can download the standalone version of iReb below to put your device into Pwned DFU mode:

    After running iReb you will get a confirmation that your device is in Pwned-DFU mode. Now try to shift+restore your custom firmware.

            I talked to DJayb6 yesterday and he said that it will untether properly but it causes other issues, that’s why it was taken down.

      I’m tryign to jailbreak the iPhone Verizon 4.2.8 and get to the point where I see a snowflake on the phone and in iTunes I get to the “Restoring iphone firmware” portion…..then it kicks out stating the “The iPhone “iphone” is not eligible for the requested build”. I don’t have an entry in the hosts file for the verification servers…so what now. I’ve tried three times with the same results. I’m on a Mac.

      Any help would be greatly purshated!!

          It seems to have made it worse. After I rebooted….as soon as I attempt a restore in iTunes..it automatically gives me the “The iphone ‘iphone’ is not eligible for the requested build”. It doesn’t get as far as it used to.

            Is your device in Pwned-DFU mode when you are trying to restore the custom firmware? (Keep in mind that Pwned-DFU mode is different than regular DFU mode).

              Yes. I was using Pwnage 4.3.3. DFU wizard. I did find that TinyUmbrella added the gs.apple.com entries in my host file. I just removed the entry and am re-attempting.

      Okay….the Tiny Umbrella isn’t working. Every time you start the TSS server it adds an entry into the host file, so when I reach the part in the restore process where it tries to restore the iphone firmware…it now gives an error 1013 …which states the entry in the host file is the cause. If you remove the entry…..you’re right back where you started “The iphone is not eligible for the requested build”.

      Any more ideas? I hate to give up….but this SOB is driving me nutz.

      You said you used Pwnage Tool to enter pwned-dfu mode, why dont you create a custom 4.2.8 firmware with PT 4.2 using the 4.2.8 firmware bundle and try that method

        The issue I’m having with PT is….it successfully restores the custom IPSW in iTunes and then goes to reboot……….and it freezes on the apple logo. I’ve built a custom IPSW three times with PT with the same result and haven’t found a solution online for that. Do you know of one?

          You have to use Pwnage Tool 4.2 you cannot use the latest version of Pwnage Tool for the 4.2.8 firmware it is not compatible

      I’ve tried both. I’ve been at this literally for over 12 hours, trying everything under the sun. The only thing I’m able to successfully restore to the phone is the original non-jailbroken 4.2.8 IPSW.

      I even tried to downgrade to ios 4.2.6 just to try the greenpois0n jailbreak.

      This is my problem exactly..I assume the rest worked. Please tell me where this option is because I don’t see it in the pictures above nor anywhere while I was jailbreaking it.

      Where can I check “Activate the iPhone”?

      Any help would be great as this thing is driving me crazy!

          Thank you so much. For the first time in two days I am able to get into the phone and see the apps. I now have cydia on there and can go from there. Haven’t figured out the rest yet but it’s a good start. Thx a bunch :)

      Just wanted to say thank you again. I jailbroke and unlocked my g3s using the ipad bb. Not only did this work perfect..but my gps still works perfect as well.

      hi I restored my I4 with snowbreeze 2.7.3 I create the custom IPSW all nice but when I hit the cydia icon cydia wont start and it just stays en white I run jailbreakme 3.0 over it and it wont work what shoul i do? restore again?

      Do you have your SHSH keys saved? If so, you need to run the TSS server, 3194 means that the firmware could not be verified by Apple, make sure you follow all the instructions.

      Hi, i have a jailbroken iphone 4 in 4.2.1. I am not sure if this is unlocked but my baseband is 3.10.01. What will actually happen if i jailbreak to 4.3.3 using this?

        If it’s 3.10.01 it can’t be unlocked because that baseband is not unlockable. Also, if you don’t have your 4.3.3 SHSH there’s no way for you to update to 4.3.3
