Gevey SIM iPhone4 unlock hack confirmed working 02.10.04 and 03.10.01 unlock

siminterposer1-180x160

A few days ago we reported on a new SIM Interposer hack for iPhone4. This is an unlock method that is for those who are desperate to unlock their iPhones and it has now been confirmed working.

Gevey recently released a SIM Interposer which can unlock the iPhone up to iOS 4.3 by force activating the baseband using the emergency dialer.

The SIM Interposer works by adding a EEPROM chip to your SIM card just like a TurboSIM. You then call 112, a number that can be called from any GSM phone, free of charge, with or without a …

DreamBoard theming platform for iDevices is now available

dreamboardthumb

A few days ago we told you about a new application that was being developed by @WyndWarrior This new application is DreamBoard a theming platform for iDevices. Today the application went live on the ModMyi repo and is now available for download. I have to say that I am very excited about the future of this application. Right now, it isn’t much, there are some respring bugs and there’s only one included theme right now, Endroid(pictured below), but the potential this app has is great. For those who don’t know, DreamBoard combines features of WinterBoard, BackBoard and PerPageHTML …

AT&T May Be Cracking Down on MyWi Internet Tethering

AT&T MyWi Tethering TXT

ModMyi have claimed to have had tips from users saying they are receiving notices fro AT&T regarding tethering. These users have been using MyWi for tethering, and are grandfathered into AT&T’s old unlimited iPhone data plan.

UPDATE: Based on the comments ModMyi have been receiving on their announcement, It now looks as though AT&T are basing these messages solely on users with high usage. As it turns out, MyWi shows up as 0 tethered bytes:

For one user, the notices began as a simple text message:

AT&T Free Msg: Did you know tethering your Smartphone to a computer requires a …

App Review: DreamBoard [Cydia Store] new iDevice theming platform

dreamboardthumb

Rating:

@WyndWarrior the creator of the Windows OS7 theme, PerPageHTML and Backboard has released a new app called DreamBoard which will combine all the best features of WinterBoard, BackBoard and PerPageHTML into one single application. One of the most notable features of DreamBoard is that you will no longer require a respring after making theme changes! Backboard allows you to backup your springboard so that if you have a theme that requires a lot of tedious customizing and re-organizing, you can just back it up and in case your springboard ever gets messed up you can just reload …

iPhone4 Unlock Solution SIM Interposer 112 Emergency Gevey Hack

siminterposer

A new hack has been developed that will allow some people to unlock the iPhone4 even on the current baseband. This hack is expensive and legally questionable so make sure to read the summary at the end of the article before you decide to proceed with this hack. If you are desperate, this may be a viable option for you, but we recommended to just wait until the NCK iPhone hack is released by the Dev team.

Why 112?

112 had a long history as an emergency number for practical reasons; back then when the GSM standard was being drafted …

Jay (Saurik) Freeman explains the new Cydia 1.1 update

iphone-4-cydia

Saurik has updated the iDevice community with a rather lengthy post of progress of the new Cydia update and what we can expect. The bold texts indicates the comments and suggestions he has received for the new update and the text following is his response.

“Multitasking is a must and not having it is rather pathetic especially since iOS 4 has been out 8 months.”

This is simply not possible at this time. I realize everyone wants it, and hell: I want it, too; but everyone saying it is important doesn’t make it possible. The reason Cydia doesn’t have iOS …

i0n1c to release untethered 4.3 jailbreak some time this week

4.31

A few days ago we gave you a preview of the new untethered 4.3 jailbreak that is being developed by @i0n1c after that we made an updated post that he would be waiting until 4.3.1 was released to release the jailbreak. Apparently that was a misinterpretation of his words and he will not be waiting for 4.3.1 In fact according to an update we are likely to see the 4.3 untethered jailbreak some time this week.

Because of several changes in iOS 4.3 in comparison to iOS 4.2.1 the jailbreak is NOT READY yet. That is what the *ALPHA* …

Comex successfully jailbreaks the iPad2

iPad-2-Jailbroken-Comex

Yesterday we posted the information that the SHAtter exploit nor the Limera1n exploit worked on the new iPad2 that was released only 3 days ago. Today, only 3 days after the iPad2′s release in the US, @comex has successfully jailbroken it.

@comex: would’ve had it yesterday if I didn’t have to spend 1.5 days looking for a replacement exploit (which came from a most unexpected place…)

@iphone_dev: Congrats to @comex for jailbreaking yet another brand new device (iPad2) while 2500 miles away from it!

We’ll update this post as more information about the jailbreak becomes available. At this point …

First iPad2 jailbreaks will likely be userland not susceptible to SHAtter or Limera1n exploits

ipad2

With the release of the iPad2, of course the race is now on to jailbreak the device. Unfortunately it has been discovered that the expoits Limera1n and SHAtter have both been patched back in March of 2010.

iPad2 bootrom version iBoot-838.3 means it was compiled March’10. Seems geohot guessed right: limera1n was already closed

Also, it looks like Apple has blocked SHAtter as well.

Early testing also seems to show at least one thing SHAtter depends on was gone by March 2010 too

SHAtter can’t work at all with the “thing” I referred to gone

For those hoping to jailbreak …

Untethered Jailbreak To Be Delayed Until Apple Releases iOS 4.3.1 To Public

4.3

That untethered jailbreak demo that we posted about last night? Well it looks like the hacker behind the exploit is going to save it until Apple releases iOS 4.3.1.

i0n1c: With Apple already baking 4.3.1 the first one releasing an iOS 4.3 jailbreak will pretty much burn the exploit

i0n1c: Well Apple should release 4.3.1 very soon, because tomorrow everybody knows that @0xcharlie popped an iPhone 4 at #pwn2own through Safari.

Why you may ask? At Pwn2Own contest, iPhone 4 was hacked via vulnerability which was found in Mobile Safari running iOS 4.2.1. This vulnerability also exists in iOS …

Alpha version of untethered 4.3 jailbreak demoed by I0n1c

untethered

@I0n1c has just demonstrated an untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3 using his iPad.

I0n1c posted the video below on YouTube saying, shows my alpha untethered jailbroken iPad on iOS 4.3. alpha because not all required kernel patches are in it, yet.

No word yet on when the untether will be available for public release. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more.

Take a look…

Possible NCK unlock coming which would permanently unlock all iPhone4s

thumb

Although the release of ultrasn0w has been delayed yet again, there seems to be a shred of hope. Today, MuscleNerd posted that a new exploit (NCK), which was discovered a few hours ago, is expected to permanently unlock the iPhone 4 basebands.

One of our Facebook fans demonstrated what’s the NCK exploit as:

New exploit has been discovered that might unlock iPhone 4 permanently! NCK unlock code is just 40 bits! if turns out to be true, it’s unexpected surprise for those w/vuln BB’s. All the data is there for 40-bit brute force!!

This new exploit is still being worked …

A reminder to save your 4.2.1 SHSH blobs while you still can

shsh

UPDATE: It has been brought to our attention that Apple is no longer signing 4.2.1, if you didn’t save your SHSH for 4.2.1 by now, you will never be able to. If you are on 4.3 and looking to downgrade, you will unfortunately have to wait until a new jailbreak tool for 4.3 is released.

As you know, 4.3 firmware was released to the public this week. Historically, Apple has had a buffer where they continue to sign the previous firmware(4.2.1 in this case) for a few days after the release of the new firmware. After they stop signing …
