Turn your iPhone into a DSLR Camera – iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4

Why pair an iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, or iPhone 4 with a DSLR lens? Why not!

With the release of the iPhone 4, iPhones now have the ability to shoot at 5 megapixels, HD video as well as a LED flash. Combined that together with a DSLR lens, and you’ve got a device that can shoot amazing images/video with SLR lenses, edit them on the fly, and share them on the internet all in one device. This makes for some amazing shots!

See the video below for an example of the type of video you are able to take on …

Lowest price for 2-year agreement on iPhone 4 $147 at Sam’s Club

Radio Shack’s $149 price for the 16GB iPhone 4 just got undercut by a whole two bucks. We’ve been tipped off to Sam’s Club now offering the AT&T-locked device for a $147 fee, subject to the usual two-year agreement. This offer will run all the way until Christmas day, so if you have to have the cheapest possible fourth-gen iPhone, this’ll probably be it. The 3GS is also up for grabs at a thrifty $47, emulating its younger sibling’s $52 price cut. Is there anyone left who isn’t discounting smartphones this month?

iPhone4 Unlock to be released before January 16th?

Last month the Dev Team released an update to their UltraSn0w tool which allowed to unlock the iPhone 3G and 3GS loaded with the latest iOS 4.2.1. The iPhone 4 was left out of the equation and unless you’re still on baseband 01.59.00, you can’t unlock this device yet.

Today, some good news was uncovered about an unlock for the iPhone 4 iOS 4.2.1 baseband 02.10.04 in a tweet sent out by Sherif Hashim. The iPhone hacker confirmed that an unlock for 02.10.04 will be available, most likely before January 16th…

Untethered 4.2.1 Jailbreak confirmed to be coming before Christmas

While the jailbreak tools available in the wild will free the iPhone from its shackles, we’re not looking at untethered jailbreaking for iOS devices so that’s why the jailbreak process still needs to be perfected. As for the unlock tool, that only deals with older basebands and new iPhone 4 units with newer basebands will not get the unlock treatment just yet. As we had reported earlier, an untethered 4.2.1 jailbreak is in the works and is rumored to be released before Christmas(possibly on Christmas Eve).

Getting back to the untethered jailbreak process, we find out today that the iPhone …

Why is Cydia called Cydia?

Cydia is a household name amongst the jailbreak community, but what does the word really mean? and why was it called that? Those of you who have jailbroken iOS devices are very likely to have used Cydia. The credit for this store which brings extra unrestricted functionality to our iOS devices goes to Jay “saurik” Freeman, who happens to be the brains behind this concept.

Cydia is used by millions of iPhone users and may be a very well known application, but not many people know what it means. Cydia is interestingly enough, named after a moth of all things! …

iSpot Unrestricted Web-Based Jailbreak for Clear iSpot 4G

This post has been in the making for over 4 months, and it’s finally able to see the light of day. The vulnerability I found has finally been disclosed and posted over at http://seclists.org/fulldisclosure/2010/Dec/213 it details the vulnerability and some of it’s uses. I was hoping to have the custom firmware finished by then with this patched, but at this time it’s still a ways away.

Before the iSpot required you to upload a firmware or config file to the device in order to remove the restrictions. However, now all you need to do is point your browser to a …

New version of TinyUmbrella will allow you to restore your iDevice without iTunes

TinyUmbrella is a must-have tool for all those iPhone users who have interest in jailbreaking their devices. It does two important things: 1) requests SHSH signatures for Firmware restores 2) plays back those signatures enabling iTunes to continue restore. The latest versions also have some new features like saving SHSH blobs both locally and on Cydia servers, helping iPhone users get rid of recovery mode.

A new piece of software that is being worked on by @notcom will allow you to restore without the use of iTunes. This potentially means being able to freely upgrade and downgrade your firmware …

Jay Freeman (Saurik) Announces Cydia App Store for Mac OS

When it comes to jailbreaking, there’s probably no name as familiar to the development community than that of Jay “saurik” Freeman. Jay is the brain behind the Cydia App Store, and this morning he gave the attendees of 360|MacDev an overview of his upcoming jailbreak store for Mac OS X, cycript, and Cydia Substrate.

Currently, Cydia Installer has been used by about 10% of all iPhone users, or about 10 million devices. There are well over 30,000 packages available for iOS, and a lot of open source material can be downloaded from Cydia. He refers to Cydia as a …

New antid0te jailbreak to add security to jailbroken devices via ASLR security mesaure

A computer consultant is embarking where Apple has refused to go, adding a security measure known as ASLR to iPhones to make them more resistant to malware attacks.

Short for address space layout randomization, ASLR has been noticeably absent from all iOS devices since their inception, making possible the types of attacks that commandeered a fully patched iPhone at this year’s Pwn2Own hacker contest. By randomizing the memory locations where injected code is executed, ASLR aims to thwart such exploits by making it impossible to know ahead of time where malicious payloads are located.

Starting with Windows Vista, Microsoft has …
