Jailbreak iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPT 3G, iPT 4G on iOS 4.1 And iPad on iOS 3.2.2, With Limera1n Tutorial
Limera1n has been released for all iOS devices including: iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4G / 3G, iPad running iOS 4.1, and iOS 3.2.2 respectively. Limera1n is currently available for Windows only, however a Mac and Linux version will be available soon.
The following instructions will help you jailbreak iOS 4.1 on iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS using Limera1n. We will update this tutorial and include full screenshots to guide you through the process shortly.
Note: Limera1n still has a few known bugs, these are being worked on currently and will be updated soon! Stay tuned for anymore updates!
Update your device to iOS 4.1 (iPhone and iPod Touch only) or 3.2.2 (iPad only).
NOTE: If you rely on an unlock, do not update to iOS 4.1 (without using TinyUmbrella) yet as doing so will upgrade your baseband, making it impossible for now to unlock. Either use TinyUmbrella to update to iOS 4.1 without update baseband (instructions here), or wait for PwnageTool which will help you cook custom firmware files for iOS 4.1 without the upgraded baseband.
Step 1: Download Limera1n from here.
Step 2: Connect your iDevice via USB to your computer and click on “make it ra1n”.
Step 3: Now follow the following steps in this order:
- Now wait for the device to enter mode.
- Now hold “Home” + “Power” buttons:
- Release the “Power” button:
- now wait for the device to enter DFU mode:
Step 4: Once you are done with this, you will have the limera1n logo on your iDevices screen. Limera1n will now inject the bootrom exploit to pwn your device forever!
Step 5: Jailbreak is done!
Step 6: Now start Limera1n app from your iDevice, and install Cydia as shown in the screenshots below.
Step 7: Now simply restart your device and enjoy the jailbreak!
UPDATE: If you are having problems with Cydia after jailbreaking using Limera1n, please restart your device and try again
UPDATE 2: Don't try running Limera1n on the iPhone 3G, because it'll hang in DFU mode and you'll have to get it out by booting into recovery mode.
UPDATE 3: To clarify, iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G that require jailbreak, please refere to this guide here on how to jailbreak using Redsn0w. Please remember, jailbreaking using Redsn0w does not prevent your baseband update, DO NOT UPDATE to 4.1 if you require a carrier unlock!
