Geohot Is Back With New Jailbreak, Limera1n! To Be Released On Monday!

UPDATE: Both Limera1n and Greenpois0n have been released, click here for a full tutorial on how to jailbreak using Limera1n, and here for a full tutorial for Greenpoison.

has made a dramatic return to iPhone jailbreak scene with a complete new exploit and tool to pwn all current iOS devices on iOS 4.1 for life! He has been out for months, but his return is surely going to please everyone, specially the 3rd-generation iPhone and iPod touch owners who were left out by SHAtter based GreenPois0n.

This news has been confirmed by members of Chronic Dev Team on Twitter, to whom Geohot has confirmed about his return with a complete new tool dubbed as . Chronic Dev Team of course isn’t too pleased with it, they want Geohot to save this new bootrom exploit for the future next-gen iPad 2 and devices.

p0sixninja: yes, the news about geohot is true, the day after we release ETA he decides he wants a piece of the #pie

p0sixninja: and yes it is a different bootrom exploit, he wants us to use it in GP, but there’s no way we’ll make our ETA if we do

chronicdevteam: Note greenpois0n will be released as planned. if someone decides to burn a different perfectly good exploit, that is entirely on them.

chronicdevteam: It is actually him.

chronicdevteam: because his different exploit can be saved for new iphone / ipad / ipod, AND 3G S, you’d just have to wait a little longer

cdevwill: [7:45pm] geohot: eh, i’ll just steal your exploit [7:45pm] geohot: and beat you to the release Sounds like a nice guy.

Geohot seems to have timed it to perfection. 10/11/10 (October 11), the ETA of limera1n is exactly one year after blackra1n was released to public for iOS 3.1.2.

StealthBravo: The significance of 10/11/10 is that its the one year anniversary of blackra1n’s release. 10/11/10 is the targeted release of limera1n

So what do you guys think about this? Should Geohot save his exploit for the next-generation iOS devices? Or should he just go ahead and release Limera1n on 10/11/10, that is right after Chronic Dev Team has released GreenPois0n? Let us know what you think about this in the comments section below.

UPDATE 1: MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev Team now chips in to confirm Geohot’s return, and the all-iOS 4.1 jailbreak tool Limera1n

As dramatic as geohot’s last-minute all-device JB is, still a shame that two bootrom holes will be burned at once.

UPDATE 2: The Chronic Dev Team have confirmed this will not disrupt the release of Greenpois0n although it is obvious they are upset about the thought of wasting an exploit:

GeoHot probably already has other exploits to use. Think about it. He is the founder of jailbreaking and unlocking. It’s not like he’s releasing/burning an exploit for no reason… He is doing it for those who still need a jailbreak for other devices that do not have the A4 chip. I’m damn sure there’s plenty of people who are thankful to have a jailbreak for their 3rd gen iPhones.

Will his JB also include an Unlock?

    • http://iphoneblogr.com thescragster

      Hi dk,

The jailbreak will allow you to unlock your phone. Once you have jailbroken, open Cydia and search for Ultrasn0w, install this app and your iPhone will be unlocked.

Which baseband are you on? (please note Ultrasn0w does not support 05.14.01, iOS 4.1′s baseband)

I say good on @geohot! the dev teams should have used his exploit in greenpois0n as this will work on ALL iDevices! in my eyes THEY are the 1s wasting an exploit! let’s get some JBing done!!! keep up the good work iphoneblogr and keep these updates coming!

    • ZarosDivine

      ^ +1 to that!

  • gearstik1

i would save the greenposion jb

  • ZarosDivine

Just release Limera1n this monday. Many people with IOS 4.1 on an Idevice of 3g(s)/2g/1g wouldn’t be able to jailbreak it.

I think it should be released now perhaps a new exploit can be found and saved for the 5th gen.

    • Gearstik1

Well the SHAtter exploit works 4 a4 devices and the new devices should have them

        im logged in now

Thanks for your thoughts guys. It’s interesting to see everyones different opinions.

I personally am using an iPhone 3GS at the moment so would love to see Limera1n released, but on the other hand it would be so hard once the new range was released to look back and totally regret not having a jailbreak!

It’s such a hard toss-up, I guess in the end it’s probably an obvious answer – save the jailbreak.

What do you think? What devices are you using at the moment?

    • gearstik1

      iPhone 3G

      • http://iphoneblogr.com thescragster

Oh cool. Up until now I have been using an iPhone 3G for the past year or so. Which firmware are you on? Personally I found 4.0 so slow! For a long time I preferred 3.1.3 a lot more.

What’s the speed of 4.1 like on the 3G?

It would be quite cool to get a chat feature running on the website, what do you think about that?

        • Gearstik1

Im on 3.1.3 i dont want to lose all my jailbreak installed stuff and there is and error in the title it says li”n”era1n not li”m”era1n

  • AhmeT

Wow, these are some really nice news for me :)

I was waiting two weeks for greenpois0n to come out, just to find out it won’t support my iPod touch 3g. So, this linera1n will be awesome.

And I agree with gearstik1, if linera1n can jb all iOS devices, even those with A4 chip, they shouldn’t release greenpois0n and instead wait to see will it be compatible with new devices.

  • Someone

    we have 2 jailbreaks
    Greenposi0n – jailbreaks 4 devices
    Limera1n – jailbreaks all devices

    Limera1n is a better jailbreak

why dont they save Greenposi0n exploit for later and just use limera1n on Monday. Everyone can wait another day

  • http://iphoneblogr.com JaeM1llz

The reason they aren’t working on a new jailbreak for non-A4 devices is because the exploits for those devices can be patched with a software update and each time they reveal an exploit and Apple patches it, that is one less exploit we have to work with.

If GeoHot actually does end up releasing limera1n I think it would be a mistake because Apple will patch it. Also, I wouldn’t hold your breath, remember that last time GeoHot said he was going to release a jailbreak he left the scene. Just because he released a picture with a bunch of devices with the limera1n logo doesn’t mean that it’s real.

    Ipt 3G 4.0

I’m happy and disappointed with the release if limera1n.

Happy because yah i can JB my iPod touch and not wait till 4.2

Disappointed because it is one less exploit yet greenp0ision can be saved …

Yet there can always be more exploits found

In my opinion my ipt runs fine on 4.0 maby a little laggy here And there but in general it’s fine

  • Nix0n

I really want to join the debate but seriously I am sooo torn over weather it shud be released or not! I have a 3GS on 4.1 and I desperatly want the JB but in a months time wen 4.2 is released I want to be able to update! I don’t rely on unlock so don’t NEED JB but missing it soooo much!

all of this aside is geohot even going to release this?? I think he cud just be trying to rain on dev teams parade or maybe he has a point to prove and release it after all!!?

  • lazybro94

Fantastic news for me! I have been waiting for SHAtter since news of @pod2g’s new exploit… When i found out that it would only support 4g devices i was dissapointed… Now i cant wait for Limera1n… (been waiting for that since before GeoHot left)

  • jailbreakmyphone

    this is great!!!

  • gearstik1

Is geohots a bootrom exploit coz if it is apple can’t patch it with software

  • Arod

Should I use this to jailbreak my itouch 2G or use red sn0w (which Is a pain in the ass to do)? Please help!!!

  • gearstik1

    I thought that it wasn’t for ip3g or ipt2g

    • http://iphoneblogr.com JaeM1llz

Sorry, Gearstik1 is right, too much going on right now and can’t think before I type!! if you have an IPT2G use Redsn0w to jailbreak :D
