Jailbreak iOS 4.1 using Sn0wbreeze 2.0.2 Tutorial

    UPDATE: Sn0wbreeze 2.1 has now been released, click here for a full tutorial on how to jailbreak using the updated version.

    UPDATE: This tutorial also works for the latest version of Sn0wbreeze, Sn0wbreeze 2.0.2. Please follow this same guide, using the updated download links. If you have any problems, or would like to share your thoughts, please do so here, at the Forums section.

    A reminder, this will only work with the following devices:

    • iPod touch 1G
    • iPod touch 2G (Non-MC Model)
    • iPod touch 2G (MC Model, must be previously jailbroken on 3.1.2)
    • iPod touch 3G (Must be previously jailbroken on 3.1.2)
    • iPhone 2G
    • iPhone 3G
    • iPhone 3GS new bootrom (Must be previously jailbroken on 3.1.2)
    • iPhone 3GS old bootrom (Must be already jailbroken. If you are jailbroken using Spirit or JailbreakMe, install Spirit2Pwn from http://repo.woowiz.net.

    Sn0wbreeze 2.0.2
    iReb 4.0/4.1

    Step 1: Download and install the latest version of iTunes.

    Step 2: Now start iTunes and sync your iPhone with your PC so that it backs-up all your important data including settings, apps, music, contacts and photos.

    Step 3: Download Sn0wbreeze 2.0.2 and the original iOS 4.1 firmware file. Move all these to your desktop.

    Step 4: Start Sn0wbreeze and select “Simple Mode” for easy process.

    Step 5: Sn0wbreeze will ask you to locate the .ipsw original firmware file. Point to the correct iOS 4.1 file by clicking on “Browse” button. Sn0wbreeze will verify the selected file and then will present you with following screen.

    Step 6: Click on "Yes" when Sn0wbreeze asks you “Do you want to activate your iPhone?” for hacktivation. Click on “No” only if you are on an officially supported carrier like AT&T.

    Step 7: Sn0wbreeze will now create custom firmwares for your iPhone which is jailbroken, (Save it on your desktop)

    Step 8: Now Download iReb V4.0 and make sure that iTunes is launched

    Step 9: (This step for iPhone 3G, and iPod touch 2G [MB] only) Launch iReb (to bypass iTunes errors) and choose “Online Mode” then choose your device

    Put your iPhone in DFU mode by following this step:

    • Turn iPhone off.
    • Hold Power and Home buttons together for 10 seconds or so.
    • Release Power button but keep holding the Home button until your computer recognizes a new USB device.
    • iTunes will now recognize your iPhone

    Step 10: Now, You will have to restore your iPhone to the jailbroken custom firmware by Clicking on the iPhone icon on the left sidebar of iTunes then hold left “alt” button (“Shift” button on Windows) on the keyboard and then click on “Restore” then release the alt button, Now Select the custom firmware created by Sn0wbreeze and Let iTunes finish the restore. Once you are done you will be jailbroken on 4.1!

      Laozzzz, error 1600 is normal. Use iReb to bypass the error. The download is linked at the beginning of the post.

      Hi Tre, yes all iDevices are recommended to be in DFU mode. You will have a lot less problems if you do it through DFU mode, often it will not work in normal restore mode. Let us know if you have any problems and we’ll be sure do help with everything we can :)

      The activation doesn’t work: I tray to restore a custom firmware 4.1 created with snowbreeze on a 3G or on a 3Gs old iboot, but iTunes tells me to insert a valid SIM in the iPhone to active it. I have checked the option that I wanted to activeted the iPhone while build the firmwares in snowbreeze, but it seems to not work with firmware 4.1

          You need to either use the hacktivation method built into sn0wbreeze or you need to activate the phone with an AT&T sim card from one of your friends or buy an address book sim card to activate it.

              You can use it to activate a phone you can buy them directly from here http://www.phonebookcard.com/ use tinyumbrella to kick your device out of recovery.

              Do you have access to a Mac? If you do it would be easier to use Pwnage Tool to create a cooked firmware

          i have iphone 3gs 4.1 with Baseband 05.14.02.
          The 16XX errors are constant, Either you use DFU / Restore Mode. i Used iReb also but Errors are still there.
          checked with many posts, i chenaged operating syetem Xp and 7 , checked itune Ver. 8 to 10.1 but still errors are there now i am fedup of these changings.

          Have iphone 3gs, previously JB on 3.1.2 and on os 4.1(8B117), firmware 05.14.02.

          When custom restoring from itunes I get could not be restored because the firmware file is not compatible.
          tried with phone both in DFU and restore mode (both manually reached and tried with EasyiRecovery v2.0 for Windows 7)

          Sn0wbreze file sn0wbreeze_iPhone 3GS-4.0.1

          any help?

      Hi Gibovo, this seems to be a reasonably common issue that I have seen with the recently released Sn0wbreeze 2.0.1. I haven’t come across a solution yet, nor has there been an official comment from iH8sn0w. As soon as any solution or explanation becomes available we will post it!         X.Xb (4.1b) (beta) = Not Full Yet,

        Untethered = You can turn your iDevice on+off without a computer

        Tethered = You need a computer to reboot. :)

      I have accidentally updated my iPhone 3gs new bootroom with iOS 4.1 with the baseband updated as well to 5.14.02. Now it is in emergency mode and I dont have the sim that supports the carrier. I have to activate it and use it as a ipod touch for the moment because 5.14.02 cannot be unlocked yet. The 3gs was jailbreaked before the update happened. So my question is will it be activated or hacktivated? What is the difference? Someone please help me…..

        Hactivation doesn’t require a compatible SIM so u can activate it with out apple

      Tried it on my 3GS 32gb. Had old bootrom, baseband 05.13.04 and firmware 4.0.2. Got a 1600 error too :( Now I can’t even get back to the main screen n its stuck on itunes logo with the usb cable… *sigh*

      Rain try using TinyUmbrella to knock it out of recovery mode. Also was your iPhone previously jailbroken? It had to have been previously jailbroken for this to work and if you were jailbroken using spirit or jailbreakme you were supposed to install spirit2pwn before attempting this. Please read the directions and refer to the compatibility list before trying this guys.

      i get an error 1604 on itunes while restoring with custom firmware.
      Then i follow the instruction for iREB v4.0 then i get an
      error 21 on itunes while trying to restore with custom firmware

      Hi Michael, iReb is supposed to bypass the 21 error as well as the 1600 errors, are you sure iReb isn’t working?

        i found the solution.
        what i did was, restore my iphone 3g to 4.0 stock firmware, then upgraded to 4.1 custom firmware with iREB and it worked

        my theory is that i had iphodroid installed and it might of interfere with iREB and the jailbreak proces

          I have a similar problem,
          i have an iphone 3g 16gb was jailbroken accidentaly updated on firmware 4.1 and Firmware 05.14.02.
          I was told that I should be able to jailbrake this but not unlock.
          So in iREB when I get to ‘Waiting for custom firmware’ I start the restore and then I get error ’17′…then it goes to the apple I try again and gives me error ’21′ or ’23′, finally I disconnect and connect again goes to iToons/USB logo and I have a ’1604′ error.
          Do you know what to do?
          Can you explain me what you did exactly?

            Jonbin, have you sorted this out yet? I’m in exactly the same boat. I’m not sure about the unlock. Have you tried using iReb? I haven’t but may try today.

      I follow all of the steps on screen to enter DFU mode but iREB tells me ive done it incorrectly and when i go through itunes i get the 1604 error, any help would be much appreciated

        Try running TinyUmbrella, start the TSS server and hit kick out of recovery, see if that lets it boot Nathan.

      Last step doesn’t work for me. I get error 17 when i try restore it with the custom 4.1 ios, although I’m in DFU mode.

        Shohei, error 17 usually comes up when you try to “update” with a custom firmware. Make sure you are doing a “restore” not an “update.” Let me know if that helps.

          I did a restore, I’m currently on 3.1.4 jailbroken. I have an MC model. Tried using iReb to get into the the DFU mode to see whether it helps. But it’s always get stuck at waiting for ibss.

            Are you on iPT 2G? I have heard of a lot of people getting stuck on the “waiting for iBSS screen” on those devices. Also there is no 3.1.4 firmware. If you are on an MC model you must be on a previously jailbroken 3.1.2 firmware for this to work.

        Yes Fercho, unfortunately sn0wbreeze doesn’t support iPhone 4 or the iPod Touch 4g, iH8sn0w has promised to add support for these devices as soon as the SHAtter exploit is released, but at that point it will be pointless anyway as you will just be able to use greenpois0n to jailbreak.

      Hi. I’ve updated my 3GS to iOS4.1, directly from a iOS3.1.2 with JB (spirit). I know NOW (because i didn’t check earlier), that is impossible do directly JB a 3GS with iOS4.1
      I only have backups on iOS 4.1 and 3.1.3
      I’ve tried to downgrade the system, but I only made it to 4.0
      My question is, you guys think it will be possible, in the near future, to JB a 3GS 4.1? without those requirements you have?
      Sorry for the long text. But i just need an anwer with hope, or someone with time and patience to help me restore my old system.

        Hi Julio, the answer is yes, soon the Chronic Dev team will finish their new jailbreak greenpois0n which uses the SHAtter exploit, this will be a much easier way of jailbreaking 4.1 For now, since you have your 3.1.3 blob saved you can redirect itunes server to Cydia’s server and downgrade back to 3.1.3 and jailbreak using Spirit. Hope this helps!

        Graylek, if you have the new bootrom then you need to be on 3.1.2 for this to work. If you are on the old bootrom, make sure you have installed spirit2pwn through cydia from the repo http://repo.woowiz.net

      Hello all! I’ve the error 16 problem as well :( (( I’ve upgraded withouth problems a 3gs phone but, when I try with the 3g, that error still popups… I dunno what to do really….I put the phone in dfu mode before open Ireb or with it open, either ways seems to work because iREB will detect my device, then it try to load some files withouth giving back any error, the phone screen light ups a little but when iREB finish is work, on the phone’s screen don’t appear the “now u can load the cf” sentence… I’ve tried countless times, but if I try to load the CF in this conditions, I get error 21 back… I’ve tried from 3.1.2 then from desperation, i’ve upgrade it to 4.1, but nothing either…
      WTF iREB don’t show me that message? :( ((

        Hi Graylek, you have the new bootrom since your model number starts with MC. You can only revert back to 3.1.2 if you have the SHSH blobs saved for it.

        Hi DJ,

        Sn0wbreeze should be able to create a custom firmware which will jailbreak your device but unfortunately the phone has been updated to 4.1 so the baseband will be at 05.14.01. Ultrasn0w does not support 05.14.01 at this stage meaning that while your phone can be jailbroken, it is not possible to unlock.

      - on 3.1.2/3.1.3 with spirit jailbreak + spirit2pwn == iTunes error 1604 from DFU mode and iTunes error 6 from recovery mode.

      - on 4.0 with jailbreakme + spirit2pwn = itunes error 28 (fix it by downgrading to 3.1.x)

      - on 3.1.2 with blackra1n = iTunes error 17 in recovery mode and iTunes error 1600 in DFU mode.

      Im sick of it. :/

        Yes there seems to be a lot of problems with this method of jailbreaking while others are having no problems at all. It might be worth it just to wait until SHAtter and the new greenpois0n are released which shouldn’t be too long from now.

      hey JaeM1llz, I jailbroke my iPod Touch 2g with redsn0w 0.9.5-5 a while ago and when i did, i lost all ability to use wifi, could not load cydia, and could not turn off my ipod touch..i Could not restore anything in itunes. APPERENTLY i need to have shsh blobs saved? but i couldnt because of NOT HAVING WIFI!! so for a while i was stuck using my gf’s ipod till mine wasnt so retarded >:(

      i heard of this jailbreak and said to myself “could this work?!”

      i tried all the steps correctly ( mind you im no simpleton, i am quite good at jailbreaking) and When i restored in itunes i still get a friggin error 21 :/
      ive tried this 4 times now :/

        Try this:

        1. Open TinyUmbrella and save your 4.1 blob
        2. Start TSS server in TinyUmbrella
        3. Open iTunes
        4. Put iPod in DFU mode
        5. Open iReb
        6. Shift+Restore in iTunes and select the custom firmware
        7. When it gets to “preparing iPod for restore,” click “online mode” in iReb
        8. wait a long time

        This worked for another person I talked to that was getting error 21

      Mushroooom, this likely indicates that the file you modified was not the correct file for your model of iDevice. For instance if you have a 3G iPhone you need to make sure you get the 4.1 firmware file for the 3G iPhone. Let me know if that solves your problem. Thanks!

        Try using a different USB port and ensure that the device is in DFU mode.

      i have a 3g mb version. i checked forcast and it says i can jailbreak but ireb keeps stalling on searching for ibss.
      i tried to use the integrated ireb in snowbreeze but then i kept getting error 21.

        If it’s in DFU mode the screen will be black and iTunes will say “detected device in recovery mode” to get it into DFU mode connect your iPhone to your computer, hold down the home button and power button for about 10 seconds then release the power button but continue holding the home button for about another 10 seconds or until you hear your computer beep when it detects a new device.

      I am having a problem with my 3g running ios 4.1. When I try sn0wbreeze expert mode I get an error before getting to the custom logo screen. And both modes get a notice that some .exe file must stop running. The I use ireb to put into DFU mode and everything seems to work fine other than the fact my idevice never shows “Waiting for custom firmware”. Then when I try to restore I get one of 3 errors, 17, 1601, or 1604. Thanks in advance

      I have an ipt2g MB model and i tried to jailbreak it. It gets stuck on the ‘running ireb’ part of the sn0wbreeze program. So i tried the ireb program and i get a error 40. Please help, I spent all of last night trying to figure it out. Thanks so much.

      put ipod 2G MB model in DFU mode
      Created custom FW 4.1 using sn0wbreeze
      used iREB in sn0wbreeze
      Restored in iTunes without problems

      Problem: first i did this on a PC win 7 64 bit
      and after that i tried it on my laptop win 7 64 bit

      The last step confuses people. when your phone has the snowflake and the words waiting for custom firmware on the screen, that is when you click shift restore if using windows and chose the new ispw. It should work then. Just run Ireb, then dont do anything and click shift/restore and chose the ispw. :)

      I keep getting stuck at the ‘Waiting for iBSS…’ when using iREB also.
      Last night I tried to restore with my custom firmware, got error 1601. Then I got my iPod out of DFU mode since it wasn’t doing anything, and then iREB finished, but nothing happened on my iPod and I still got error 1601.

      Nevermind. I got it to work now, but whenever I try to restore to my custom firmware, I get the 17 error. But I’m using sn0wbreeze 2.0.2

            Since you have the new bootrom, you MUST be on 3.1.2 jailbroken in order for this to work. If you don’t have the SHSH blobs for 3.1.2 needed in order to downgrade I am afraid you are going to just have to wait for the new 4.1 jailbreak to be released.

              That is correct, at this time you cannot use sn0wbreeze 2.0.2 on a 3Gs new bootrom unless you are prejailbroken on 3.1.2 and if you don’t have the blobs there is no way to get back to it

      I have an iphone 3g which was running 3.1.2 jailbroken with blackra1n, but i recently had to do a restore so i restored it to just the original 3.1.2.
      Its now stuck in recovery mode, and im trying to restore in the lastest itunes with iOS 4.1 custom firmware created through sn0wbreeze 2.0.2
      in DFU mode without iREB (v4.0x/4.1) i get an itunes error either 1600 or 1604, and using iREB it bypasses those errors BUT i then get error 21.
      I figure i should be using iREB’s online mode, as when I tried using the offline, itunes wouldnt respond.

      Im stuck for ideas….

      Help??? (:

      Snowbreze is a failure, I’m waiting for redsnow
      first ireb didnt run and the waiting for IBSS and I get the error 1600, I make ireb run by quiting the process of snowbreze, looks like it did the ting, and then I get the error 40, I make all again with the correct iReb and gave me error 1606, so I choose not to jailbroke it until redsnow appears… FUCK snowbreze you can irub my balls >:(

      I used snowbreeze to jailbreak on the “simple mode” and everything worked fine until after I did the DFU thing and the screen got stuck on running iREB. after a while snowbreeze just closed and restarted at the original screen. What do I do now? My phone wont turn on. (iPhone 3g on OS 4.1)

      I got it…. For those who still have problems will just need to wait for GreenP0ison, and that JB is going to be released in November. Oh… and a little FAQ.

      Q- How do I get rid of 1601 error (ipt 2G or iPhone 3G)?
      A- Try using iReb (Offline Mode) if you have ipt 2g (MB and MC) or iPhone 3g, but you will get error 17, so it will be useless.

      Q- Does Sn0wbreeze 2.0.2 fix thew problems it says it do?
      A-No, at least for me.

      Q- How do I get out of Recovery Mode?
      A- Use iReb.

      Q- And DFU?
      A- My way is that I hold Power and Home buttons until it gets on or in recovery mode.

      Q- HOW DO I GET UN-STUCKED ON IREB ONLINE!?!?
      A- Use Offline Mode, yep and that means that you need to download 3.1.2 Firmware for your iDevice.

      And that’s all!

      And also for God’s Sake, use TinyUmbrella (To get SHSH Blobs)!

      -Deleted 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com from end of system32/drivers/etc/host.
      -Error 1600, 1604 in iTunes

      I’ve tried just about everything at this point. I’m ready to call it quits now.

      Just to give feedback: I was able to JB/update an old 3G (FW 3.0 JB with pwnage tool years ago) using SnowBreeze 2.0.2 to FW 4.1 successfully.

      Important info: SB 2.0.2 seems to have three messageboxes that look like debugmessages (probably leftover from fixing hactivation). The pop up when the hacktivation is integrated in the IPW… This is OK and works fine, but maybe it should be mentioned in the tutorial as it might be irritating.

      The IREB ssteps (as the tutorial saif needed for the 3g) take quite long and it could be mentioned that you have to wait for IREB to do quite some things before you can flash the custom FW

      Also to mention: I added uktrasnow to unlock and ultrasnow did not work ath the first start. It worked after installing all updates from cydia and rebooting. This might also be a moment of fear to other users, maybe mention it in the tutorial.

        Hi Mason, you can try resetting your network settings to see if that fixes your problems. If not, there is always the option to download the deb file for Ultrasn0w which can be found HERE you can then use SSH to install the deb file on your device, if you do not know how to do it this way, let me know and I will write a tutorial for you later today when I get home from school.       Ok. I think I screwed up and could use a hand. I got an old 3G today (ios 4.0.1)and jail broke it with jailbreakme then unlocked it with Ultrasn0w. Then stupidly did an Erase and Restore (or something like that) to get rid of all the crap that I didn’t want on the phone. Whooops.

      Now I can’t get into the phone and the only way I can get back to any screen is to do a “restore” while connected to the internet. Am I totally buggered here? Will it automatically update to ios 4.1 when iTunes wants to update to 10? Will I need to re-JB the phone from the newer ios? Is that even possible?

      I’m crushed that I had a perfectly good, unlocked, JB phone for about 30 mins, then bollocked it all up by trying to cleanly erase everything.

      Any help would be very much appreciated.

        Kai, unfortunately you cannot restore 4.0.1 without your SHSH blobs backed up and if the iPhone wasn’t jailbroken when you got it they more than likely aren’t since Apple stopped signing 4.0.1 a while ago. However, if you have a MAC or access to a MAC you can use redsn0w 0.9.6b1 to jailbreak 4.1

        However! Redsn0w requires you to update to 4.1 which will upgrade your baseband and you will lose your ability to unlock your device so make sure you update using TinyUmbrella so that you can retain your baseband.

      i have an apod touch 3rd gen, bought it just recently on firmware 3.1.3, i was able to JB it using spirit JB nut after installing a couple of apps, i froze then got stuck at the apple logo. this made me restore-update it to 4.1

      my question is will this JB work on my ipod or will i have to wait for greenpoison to arrive?

        No, it will not work, as the compatibility list at the beginning of the post states any iTouch 3G MUST be on 3.1.2 firmware for this to work. You will have to wait for greenpois0n unless you backed up your 3.1.3 SHSH blob in which case you can downgrade back to 3.1.3 and jailbreak with Spirit again.

        Create a new custom firmware and try again. Make sure not to check the hacktivate option, just activate it with an AT&T or phonebook SIM card.

        When it says “waiting for IBSS” that’s when you start the restore, it should only say that for a few seconds so if it doesn’t just wait for the new jailbreak to come out.

      I have a 3gs Iphone with new boot rom that i used to have jailbroken with spirit, while i want to try out the 4.1 jailbreak using snowbreeze i mistakenly choose the stock firm instead of the custom one I made.

      Stuck in the 4.1 stock with out shsh blob i assume i need to wait for the jailbreak.

      My question is will there be some kind of jailbreak that will work like SPirit, meaning jailbreaking mine phone regardless if i am new or old bootrom jailbreaken or not.

        The new greenpois0n jailbreak using the SHAtter exploit is an A4 exploit, therefore it will jailbreak ALL current devices regardless of bootrom and Apple won’t be able to patch it using software, they will have to redesign the hardware to patch it. So yes, you will be able to jailbreak using the new tool.

        i know that you said that you arnt taking anymore questions about sb2.0.2 but i do beleive that is something that no one else has ran into. i have 2 differnt iphone they are both the 3g model. ive been jailbreaking them both since the 3g was released, anyway i jb the first 1 and didnt have any issues. when i jb’d the second i though that all was well my girlfriend was typing a text message and the phone sudden got really slow then it suddenly went to the black screen with the apple logo but over top of the logo was the spinning wheel saying that it was doing something. it stays on this screen for a few minutes then it restarts and does the exact same thing. i have tried to restore to 4.1 without a jb and that still did the same exact thing, then tried to downgrade to 4.0 and still did the same thing, then 3.1.3 then 3.1.2 all of which when they are detected in itunes it says the model and the os version and ph number, but at the bottem of the page it always says that it has 181.8 mb of other and 6.73 gb of free space and nothing else. i have tried useing ireb and it only works to reboot the phone when i have 3.1.2 and 3.1.3 installed, other then that it does absolutly nothing. i have ran through all of the steps multible times on multibles computers with multible operating systems, 1 computer had windows 7 ultimate 64x, the second had windows vista ultimate 32x, and i am in the process of putting an old xp machine back together to try that but i doubt if that will work either. i have spent 8 hours or more searching the internet for anything that could help. i never ask for help, ive always been able to figure out any jailbreak issues on my own. please help! oh i dont want to forget i also did all of these steps using dfu mode and also using the regular restore mode.

          Sounds to me like a hardware issue. I would restore it to stock 4.1 and take it to the Apple store, they will probably give you a brand new one.

            my warranty is expired. its weird it responds to being flashed, when i make different ipsw files for it i have made some that used custom boot screens and some without and those change. i think ill call apple and see if they will maybe give me another phone this was just replaced a couple months ago right before the warranty ran out

      I got it to work for people having issues with error 21 keep holding the home screen button even after ireb loads and wait for the waiting for custom firmware to load on your iphone screen, then do the restore process via itunes.

      Two answers, 1. please go through and read some of the comments (maybe do a search on this page) to see if your question has already been answered.

      2. If you are still having problems, wait for Greenpois0n. The Chronic Dev team have said said it will most likely be released within days. This will be a much easier process and is bound to have less problems. Subscribe to keep up to date with the lastest information as it comes.

      I was having tons of problems trying to restore to custom firmware. The solution is to restore in normal mode NOT DFU or Recovery mode.

      Phone is on, connect to Itunes, hold shift and restore to custom firmware.

      I’m not sure about unlocking or baseband so use at your own risk.

      okay…so ive been trying to jailbreak my Iphone 3gs ios 4.1 on my mac using Pwnage tool and on windows using snowbreeze and NOTHING…i either get error messages 1600 or it stays stuck on recovery mode and doesnt do anything…i also tried DFU mode and its does its restore run but still gives an error message…I dont know what to do and am needing help!!! i have read all the posts and still tried everything and its not working at all!!! My phone wont downgrade as well to 4.01 so i can use jailbreakme.com.       I’m in a similar situation as Devesh. Jailbreak is not the problem (especially with the imminent release of Greenpois0n). It is the unlock which to me is more important as I already have t-mobile and hate ATT. Is there or will there be an unlock for a 3G with updated Baseband coming soon? Or is there already a way to do it? I previously JB the phone with JBme and unlocked with Ultrasn0w. I did click CYDIA’s “make my life easier” or something like that when I installed it prior to unwittingly doing the clean and restore. I’ve heard that may have saved some “blobs” or something. True?

      Hi all, I was having many issues like most people here but I just managed to get it working.

      First off I am using an Iphone 3g with 4.1 (updated through itunes today: 02/10/2010)

      What i did not realise was you have to ‘use’ the ireb program WHILE performing the connection to itunes.. to perform the recovery mode WHILE connected to itunes..

      Honestly I was sitting there for ages not realising I has to actually ‘use’ ireb as I thought you just needed the program open/in the back ground.. rofl. good luck!

      For some reason the snowbreeze created a corrupt IPSW for me (was supposed to be around 300MB but was 219mb)

      Created it again on another PC and it solved the prob :)

      So im new to the jailbreaking world and didnt realize how much it was going to be to take it all in. I updated to 4.1 and now am in desperate need to jailbreak my 3g. ive gone through all the steps as required and keep getting error message 17 after using ireb then my phone shuts off and itunes usb logo pops up. any help on what to do or am i lost till greenpoison comes out. also tried redsnow but phone icon is gone.

      Those getting error 21 use Windows 7 (probably x64), right? I did and I got error 21. But I tried XP on another PC and it went great. Error 21 is probably USB-Driver related and it happens on Windows 7 (probably the x64 version)

      I’m having a really odd issue.. I previously used Sn0wbreeze 2.0 to jailbreak my old bootrom 3GS successfully. But I ended up wanting to clear it out because it was getting really slow. So I restored to 3.1.2 (I have SHSHs from 3.1-4.1) and used Blackra1n like how I originally did. Every IPA I make will give me one of 2 errors, 21 if I restore, 1600 if I use DFU. I know I’m only supposed to restore but I tried DFU because it wasn’t working. After that I restored to 4.0 and tried jbme2pwn and I’m still getting the same errors. I’ve been looking for countless hours and I can’t find anyone with the same problem. If you could help, I’d be really grateful. I don’t need an unlock by the way.

        I feel really hopeless now, I’ve tried on Windows 7 (x64), Windows Vista (x32), and Windows XP (x32). Does anyone know what I may be doing wrong? I don’t have a Mac and I don’t know anyone who lives around me that does have one.

        try to use a different PC (like Windows XP system) and error 1600 is occurred because you are restoring to a custom firmware in DFU mode so restore it in recovery mode not DFU Mod

      Hi, I am having a problem getting my iphone 3G to display the “waiting for custom firmware”. I follow the directions, and it just goes to a black screen. Its in DFU mode, but when I restore, I get an error 21. I got it to work once but selected some wrong options, so I am trying to do it again but for some reason Im not getting that screen to restore 4.1 to.
      Anyone have any suggestions?

        I got it to work.. I saw some people having issues with Win7 64bit, which is what I have.. I also have a Win7 32bit machine and I tried it on that and it worked. So like someone said, 64bit Win7 is an issue… try a 32bit pc (Win7, Vista, or XP)..
        Restoring my backup now, and ATT shows activated.. much better now..
        Hope this helps someone else..

        Hi DOggie, you can use this method to upgrade to 4.1 on the iPhone 3G, however if you rely on the unlock you are not going to want to do that. Currently you can only retain baseband on the iPhone4 so on the 3G your baseband will be updated if you update to 4.1 no matter what. If you don’t rely on the unlock you can go ahead and give this tutorial a shot.

      For all those ppl without their SSH blobs saved, try using USBView to retrieve your iPhone’s/iPod’s ECID. Launch iReb/Umbrella to generate your SSH blobs from your ECID & save to Cydia/Apple/local hosts. This worked for me :)

        Hi Selebrate, this will not work. What you just described is exactly what TinyUmbrella already does for you, however, you cannot recover old blobs using this method since Apple needs to be signing the firmware you are trying to retrieve your blob for in order for it to backup the blob.

            it force me to restore
            but when it comes to “preparing iphone for recovery”
            then got 1601 error…

      Done! Sn0wbreeze worked last night in DFU mode and restore but I got a message in iTunes

      “There is a problem with your iPhone. We’re sorry, the iphone you connected maybe be damaged and cannot be activated for service. We recommend you visit your nearest Apple store for more information.”

      I did a clean restore back to default firmware for now.

      Anyone knows what am doing wrong?

        When using the iPhone originating in the US you need to have AT&T SIM in place to enable iTunes restore. If you don’t have one, have one of your friends lend one to you for a few minutes.

          Not true, as long as you tell sn0wbreeze that you don’t have an official SIM it will create a pre-activated firmware for you.

      I have an iPod touch 3G, previously jailbroken on 3.1.2 with blackra1n.
      I tried restoring to the custom 4.1 made by snowbreeze and I got error 1604.
      Then I downgraded to 3.1.2 and jailbreak with blackra1n, I tried restoring to custom 4.1 again and got the same error again.
      After that I did the same, but I put my device to recovery mode b4 restoring to custom 4.1, same error again, this doesn’t seem to work.

        No Greenpois0n will not work on 3Gs. Greenpois0n is an A4 exploit so it will ONLY work on devices with the A4 processor which are the iPhone4, iPodTouch 4G and the iPad. This exploit will not work on any other devices. You will have to wait until a new userland jailbreak is developed by Comex.

        Janet, if you are getting error 17 you are most likely not using the newest version of sn0wbreeze. Make sure you have version 2.0.2 which can be found in our downloads section here

        Greenpois0n will not be of any use to you since it only works on A4 devices and 3Gs is not an A4 device. At this point you should just stay on 3.1.3 until Comex releases a new jailbreak that will work on non-A4 devices.

      Just followed these steps using sn0wbreeze 2.0.2 on a 3g updated to 4.1 (never before been jailbroken). Skipped the ireb step since it was included in the automatic process of sn0wbreeze.

      Everything seems to be working just fine. Restoration of backup worked without a hitch. Thanks!

      - IPT 3g MC model
      - running iOS 4.0
      - currently jailbroken with jailbreakme
      - have jailbroken the device on 3.1.2 and 3.1.3
      - didn’t save the SHSH Blob

      in the early rumors of greenpois0n it is said that it is a all device jailbreak for 2g and above, but then the newest one now says that it is only for A4 chip devices….

        you can jailbreak via limera1n which is now released and greenpois0n is now delayed and you better save your current SHSH blobs from cydia for future if something goes wrong so you can come back to 4.0 firmware good luck !!

        Correct, greenpois0n was only supposed to work on newer devices with the A4 chip because the SHAtter exploit was specific to those devices. However, now that Chronic will be using GeoHot’s exploit in greenpois0n it’s possible that it will work for all the same devices that limera1n does. That being said you should be able to use limera1n to jailbreak your device.

It says it doesn’t recognize the custom firmware in iTunes. I also have iTunes 10. So this is frustrating. I’m currently in the process of jailbreaking it now. I already tried early and lost most my stuff. So now I’m on 4.1.

      I have an iPhone 3Gs (old bootrom) on iOS 4.0.1 jailbroken and unlocked with jailbreakme/ultrasnow 0.93

      I tried to Reset user settings through iPhone settings and
      my iPhone crashed and it now reboots and gets stuck on apple logo (with colored line on the upper right, with spinning icon on center of the screen).

      I “cooked” a modified iOS 4.1 ipsw with sn0wbreeze 2.0.2, to try to install 4.1 without upgrading my baseband (and eventually unlock the phone with ultrasnow) but I’m afraid to try to restore in iTunes with this firmware because it is impossible to me to install jbme2pwn from cydia (since I can’t boot my iPhone and get to Cydia for installation)

      What can I do? I need to jailbreak and unlock and I don’t have SHSH blobs saved in Cydia for any iOS (only 4.1)

      What is the risk of trying to restore to the custom iOS 4.1 ipsw (built with sn0wbreeze) without installing “jbme2pwn” first?

      Have gone through all the steps, but after using iReb to bypass the errors, I still seem to get them? Normally either error 40 or 1614 I think.

      NOT A VALID 4.1 IPSW error is finally solved.

      I’m using Windows 7 and the trick is to use Windows Xp SP3 compatibility mode for sn0wbreeze-V2.0.2.exe.

      I’m using iPhone2,1_4.1_8B117_Restore.ipsw

      This was seriously driving me nuts.. re-downloaded the ipsw file so many times… sign.. anyways

      To enable compatibility mode, right-click on the sn0wbreeze-V2.0.2.exe file, property, go to compatibility tab and change the compatibility mode to winxp sp3, not worked for me.

        Yes! This worked for me, thanks. Just right click on Sn0wbreeze and select ‘troubleshoot compatability’ to put it in XP compatability mode, and it then gets past the ‘waiting for iBSS’ problem.

        Sounds like you restored with a factory firmware file and not the pre-jailbroken firmware file. Try again, make sure to follow the instructions carefully.

      wohhoooo it worked for me
      i’ve got an iPhone 3g
      the first time it didn’t worked because I was on Ios 4.0.2
      and with iREB it didn’t worked either
      that messed by iphone up too so I needed to restore
      i restored back to 4.0 and i have jailbroken 4.0
      it didn’t worked the normal way but it did worked for me with iREB and now I’m on 4.1 with baseband still 5.13.04

      I’m succeeded running sn0wbreeze’s custom firmware as I could see their icon whenever I boot my iPhone
      but now I’m stuck with this iOS 4.1 as it has to be activated
      I’m pretty sure I choose “yes” when the sn0wbreeze ask about hactivation

          i have tried reinstalling i tunes 9,10,10.1 nothing has worked…. its able to install apps and songs to the phone but it will not save anything at zinc, and lately its always crashing and freezing… i previously had 3.1.3 don’t know if that will help, and my comp its a windows 7 if it makes any difference….. don’t know what else to do please help…..

      I have the sn0wbreeze_iPhone 3G-4.1 version of the ipsw on my desktop.

      I Shift and click on restore, choose that file and get an itunes error saying it is not compatible software.

      please advise. should have known better than do this night before I leave on vacation but was told this was easy and worked and I could use my blackberry to tether the iphone for free data (I have unlimited data from work on the bberry)

        That means you downloaded the wrong firmware file for your device. Use our pre-jailbroken 4.1 firmware and make sure you download the correct firmware for your device.

      Well I tried to do an official restore after this stuff left me with a new restore file that gets an error saying it is not compatible.

      I got the same thing on the official restores too.

      And now my iPhone 3G is completely dead it seems.

        Don’t use sn0wbreeze it is very buggy. If you require unlock you will need to update your baseband to 06.15.00 in terms of jailbreak, use a pre-jailbroken 4.1 firmware file from our tutorials section http://iphoneblogr.com/tutorials
