OpenAppMkt is a new App Store alternative that takes full advantage of iPhone web apps, which means that no jailbreak is required.

Will the ios4 iPhone jailbreak be a website jailbreak?

Tonight, @TWiiPhone hosted an interview featuring a few members of the iPhone Dev Team. The members present were @ih8sn0w, @planetbeing, @comex and @chpwn. Despite the complete and utter lack of preparation by the TWiiPhone staff, one interesting little tidbit did emerge from the conversation towards the end. chpwn mentioned that he was frustrated about writing the javascript that detects which type of iDevice you are on. JailbreakMe.com immediately came to mind, the …

Update to sluggish response of ios4 on the iPhone 3G

Apple has now publicly recognized the issues that 3G owners are having with ios4 and are working to fix the issue. Wired covers the announcement

Some Apple 3G phone owners who upgraded to the new iOS4 operating system are facing buyer’s remorse. The upgrade has left their devices slow and struggling for breath, according to complaints on Apple’s users forum.

iDevice jailbreaking/unlocking is now officially legal exempt from DMCA

WASHINGTON – Owners of the iPhone will be able to legally break electronic locks on their devices in order to download software applications that haven’t been approved by Apple Inc., according to new government rules announced Monday.

The decision to allow the practice commonly known as “jailbreaking” is one of a handful of new exemptions from a 1998 federal law that prohibits people from bypassing technical measures that companies put on their products to prevent unauthorized uses. The Library of …

No new jailbreak for the month of July

I was just browsing @iH8sn0w twitter account and noticed that he tweeted that he has spoken with Comex and the jailbreak will not be ready for release before the end of July. Hopefully we can get an early August release!

UPDATE: Twitter member iPhoneHT1234 asked Comex in a tweet whether he was able to confirm this. Comex replied saying this:

Jay (Saurik) Freeman interview part 2

A few days ago, I posted a video interview with Jay Freeman(Saurik) in which he showed us all a jailbroken iPhone 4. Our friends over at MakeItWork have posted the second part of this interview which was a radio interview for even more details about past, current and future iPhone Dev Team projects. Take a look:

iOS4 on your 3G causing issues? Turn off Spotlight

Many 3G iPhone users have been complaining that installing iOS4 on their phones causes the phone to move very slowly and cause a lot of lag. Many users have reported that this can be fixed simply by disabling spotlight search. Just go to settings>general>spotlight search and uncheck any of the spotlight search settings you don’t want indexed. Obviously the more you turn off the faster it will be so turn them all off if you never use spotlight search:

What do I need to know about the upcoming jailbreak?

So, we all know Comex will be releasing an all iDevice jailbreak soon, but how is it going to work? What do I need to know before purchasing?

I thought it would be helpful to piece together some of the information that has already been shared through various means by members of The Dev Team.

1. PlanetBeing has confirmed that the unlock for iPhone 4 will be released with the upcoming jailbreak.

2. Comex has confirmed the jailbreak

Comex and ih8sn0w joke about the pmap

Well, progress must be coming along smoothly tonight, Comex and ih8sn0w have been a part of some tongue-in-cheek exchanges over twitter tonight. iPhone 4 unlock effort leads to a permanent unlock

@MuscleNerd tweeted an hour ago that there will be a seczone dumper tool for those who want to bruteforce their unlock code. What does this mean for us? Permanent unlock without the use of ultrasn0w. The unlock is already complete and ready to be released upon the release of the new jailbreak as soon as it’s finished, debugged and packaged. We are getting close!
